and no criminal history to get a job as an OTR driver?
I do not generally do well in job interviews. My communications skills are not the best. I was working as a technician for a fortune 500 company for several years. Have been unemployed for the past year.

I have not yet attempted to find a truck driving job. I have heard that there is a shortage of drivers, but I suspect there are plenty of unemployed people who would be willing to give truck driving a try. If you have any knowledge of this industry, would appreciate your comments.

I'm 53 and have been working in the same field for more than 30 years. I'm tired of all the stupid sucking up and having to listen to snotty 30 year olds who are more skilled socially tell me what to do in my technical field. I'd love to retire but I'll probably never have enough money. So I'm working in a job I hate that I can't leave because my family needs the income and medical benefits. And don't tell me to "follow my bliss," cut back on expenses and just have a wonderful time. In America, if you don't have decent health benefits, you're screwed and if you're 53, the chances of getting hired by someone are pretty slim. I'm also working a lot of hours and between that and a difficult home situation, I don't have time to "take classes and improve myself." Not that it matters. I'm so sick of corporate America but I'm stuck with my life. So, how do you suck it up and deal with this? I don't want to hear from anyone under 50. You have nothing to tell me.

I am trying to get a second part-time job but seems like everytime I fill out applications and I fill them out the correct way and also give my resume, I never get any responses back from the employers, I think its because of my age I'm 48 and all they would hire now is the young people, I thought age was a discrimination, I filled out applications for like dunkin donuts several times and retail stores and for foodservice positions, right now I'm an assistant manager where I work at but its not an everyday job its mostly a weekend job like fri, sat, and sundays, every once in a while we may work for a whole week and then we may have sometime 1 or 2 weeks off until something else comes up, the young people gets hired before me. can someone plz give me a good answer? Thanking you in advance

I was recently fired from my job for sending un-related work emails. You know, the funny jokes emails millions of people forward everyday. In my case, because I was a supervisor I was told that I should have known better/funny emails to subordinates/coworkers was inappropriate and against company policy. Although I saw it as boosting moral, I have learned from this and vow to never do it again - ever. My question is, how do I put this on a job application without getting my application tossed in the trash? I have excellent work history and references. I spoke to my previous supervisor (who was crying when upper management let me go) and although he thinks I was an excellent employee - the company policy forbids him from giving any type of references (only HR can do that). I'm applying for a position in the police department so I want to keep my integrity without disqualifying myself from the applicant pool.

Hey everyone. I have a Bachelors degree in Business. Major is Finance, Minor is computers. I have 10 years experience in the retail industry. I would like to pursue a career in computers now but don't know how to do it. There are degree programs in my area for Bachelors and Associate degrees. However, I already have a Bachelors. Should I go back anyway and get another degree? This can be expensive. Or, is there some place else I can start and further my experience in computers that is less timely and more cost effective? Career counselling is expensive and sometimes doesn't work. I am depending on Yahoo Answers for some thoughts. Any?

I am working at this job and I like it but I feel that I can come up with things that would make a lot of improvements but I'm afraid to speak up bacause I've only been here 9 months. I feel I could come up with simpler ways to do things but I'm afraid my ideas may sound stupid. I work at a company that does primarily engineering type work and my degree is in English. I dont want to sound stupid to them. Also, alot of people don't know what is going on in the company as there are really not a lot of set procedures on doing day to day tasks that are a part of your daily job. How can I go about in not a bossy attitude, that I have a lot great ideas that could help the company. I dont know a lot of business but all my ideas would really make people a lot happier in doing their jobs and there would be a better understanding of their work. That feeling of being lost would be done away with. How can I go about getting this done and show em that I can get the job done easier and quicker?

This full-time position pays 50 cents less but offers benefits, which I'd have to wait much longer for with the temp agency. I interviewed with the company yesterday and they called me with the offer today. Should I accept the position, or stay with the uncertain temporary position? And how do I deal with rude agents who get upset when their workers are offered outside positions? Thanks.

Or should I grow some balls and just remain with the job? I didn't fight with my supervisor or the manager in my department; I fought with some other department's supervisor and manager.

Will they hold a grudge on me? I know I hold a grudge on them.

Hi
I want to present my problem and i appreciate if you tell me your opinion honestly. I have made a discussion with my manager about my salary because i have finished my trial period. During the discussion, i tried to have higher price but he insist on his number so i said ok. when i went home, i felt that this price is really unfair and do not satisfy me. So in the next day i went and discuss him again to have higher price. He was little surprised and i felt he didn't like it and wasn't happy. So, he told me that he will give me an answer in few days. Is it very bad that i came again in the next day? is it very negative for me? how i can fix it ? what he may say about me?

Currently, I am a junior studying economics at Syracuse. Once I graduate I plan to move to NYC to become a financial analyst at an investment bank. I will spend about 4-5 yrs in that industry before going back to school for my MBA. Also plan on getting my CFA destinction during that time.

My question is whether this is a feasible career path? Is it realistic that I can work the intensive hours as an analyst, study for the GMAT and CFA exams, and have a personal life? Do most I-bankers who get their MBA, get all three levels of the CFA before going back to school?

When people are explaining things to me, I get agitated and worry if I will do it properly. It depends on how they say it. If they go too fast and put pressure on me, they seem to panic me. Even when I take it slow, they tell me to hurry up which panics me more. When they go too slow and treat me like there is something wrong with me, I feel like an idiot and get annoyed. Other people, however have a calming influence on me and go at the right speed and I learn and powere ahead. Am I stupid?

I find most people from the cities put more pressure on you and go about tasks faster. Where as people where I come from generally are more relaxed about things.

This is affecting how I learn because I can't learn quickly around some types of people. Am I stupid? I am not a slow learner, I just need to feel comfortable about what I am doing.
Sometimes I can work under pressure but I never feel comfortable about it. Am I normal?
