When people are explaining things to me, I get agitated and worry if I will do it properly. It depends on how they say it. If they go too fast and put pressure on me, they seem to panic me. Even when I take it slow, they tell me to hurry up which panics me more. When they go too slow and treat me like there is something wrong with me, I feel like an idiot and get annoyed. Other people, however have a calming influence on me and go at the right speed and I learn and powere ahead. Am I stupid?

I find most people from the cities put more pressure on you and go about tasks faster. Where as people where I come from generally are more relaxed about things.

This is affecting how I learn because I can't learn quickly around some types of people. Am I stupid? I am not a slow learner, I just need to feel comfortable about what I am doing.
Sometimes I can work under pressure but I never feel comfortable about it. Am I normal?

You're right, some people - a lot of people - talk fast and expect you to understand what they say the first time they say it; I've come to learn that sometimes it's because they are nervous themselves and sometimes it's an act of bullying - if when you ask them to repeat they say it like "I said "WHERE - IS - THE - DE-LIV-ER-Y OFF-ICE?" then you know they're just being obnoxious. Think about how you would address a stranger in the street and compare how you speak to how people talk to you at work.

Let's see. You don't sound abnormal so, yes, you must be normal.

You didn't say how old you are, what type of work you're doing or how long you've been doing it. But regardless, my answers would probably be the same anyway.

Professional trainers understand that there are four general ways that people learn:

1. Some like to see the task demonstrated.
2. Some like to hear the task being explained.
3. Some like to simply perform the task as they're being talked through it.
4. Some like to read and study the task in advance.

While all of us use all four of these methods, usually one is the dominate one.

Not all trainers understand this. In too many companies, co-workers train co-workers. Unfortunately, this leads to errors and potential injuries due to incorrect or incomplete information.

You may want to talk to your direct supervisor about having someone that you are comfortable with help you complete your training. As you learn the different tasks, you'll most likely become more confident and comfortable about what you're doing.

Lastly, if you're uncomfortable working under pressure and you feel stressed regularly, this may not be the right job for you. Not every job is right for every person and there's no shame in understanding that.

Best of luck to you.

I am a trainer at my work. Unfortunately I am trying to train someone and do my job at the same time and time is $.I get tired of training people who are not going to make the cut, and quit .My job is fast paced which means the person must catch on quickly to be able to work quickly.I do not put pressure on the person until the 3rd day, If they haven't picked up by then I know they aren't going to make it.

No big deal. Everyone is like that, you are not different at all. I suggest you show interest in learning and the person teaching will see your interest and be easy on you.
Hope this helps.
