Listen carefully and try to understand what they want then go think about it. People don't need to know why you didn't do it their way as long as you learn from the mistakes. If it turns out you were right they will figure it out.

I have worked with many people like that and I used to feel that I was losing something (integrity, pride) if I gave in. Now I weigh the issues to determine how I will react.

(1) How important is the issue? If you give up or "lose" the argument, what will happen?
(2) Is it costing me anything, e.g. money out of my pocket or personal time/overtime?
(3) If I don't "win" the argument, will I or anyone else be put at risk, e.g. safety/hazard?
(4) How much will it cost the company?

An example: A boss asked me at 9 a.m. (Eastern) to call a west coast office (6 a.m. Pacific). She wouldn't accept that this person was in a different time zone and wanted me to call her anyway. I figured I had nothing to lose, so I called and left a message. Then I just calmly went about my work knowing that I had done my part while the boss gave herself an ulcer as she impatiently waited 5 hours for this person to return her call.

However, if these issues are personal attacks on you, you would be wise to keep documented accounts of your conversations with this person. If you feel threatened, ensure that you have a witness or union rep present when you have conversations relating to your work performance.

Good luck

yea... i know exactly how it feels. they are just dumb to see things from their own perspective alone and not listen to anyone and besides its attention drawing tactic. the more attention you pay them, the more they behave that way. just smile, nod your head and dont bother replying. no use arguing with fools. try to stay away from people who vex your soul.
and if you really wanna screw them up, keep saying... "wow, you really know stuff.... you are a genius.... where do you come from...wow..." it will start getting on their nerves!!
