the best reason is the truth. if they counter offer it means that they don't want to loose you and if the offer is good enough and you like your current job then take it. good luck.

Tell them the truth, that you are leaving to pursue another opportunity. It would have been better to give them advance notice, as they have every right to be pissed at being caught short handed. Taking a counter offer depends on you reason for taking the new job- if it's only $ involved and they offer you more, it could pay to stay. But other issues are unlikely to change, so it depends on why you are leaving.

Actually a 2 week notice is outdated...would they give you 2 weeks notice if they were firing you?! No they wouldn't.

I would just say that you had another offer and would like to see what else you can accomplish. Apoligize that it's short notice and be super nice and professional during the meeting. You don't want to burn bridges!

I doubt they will counter-offer, most places don't seem to do that. If they do, then only you can make the decision of what to do.

Good luck!

Depends on what you do and if you like the comfort of where you are. If you want steady career growth, many times you have to change jobs to get the experience you need and get noticed by others in your industry. Don't lie if someone asks you why you are leaving. The best thing to say is "I am leaving for career growth that my present job doesn't offer."

You should have given yourself two weeks...that way if they counter offered you would have had time to consider it.

You need to be honest...they aren't going to counter offer because they aren't going to want someone who isn't responsible enough to give adequate notice around. What happens next time, you would do the same thing, better to let the other guy take you since you have shown what your loyalties are!

the reason to end your job stunning now is merely which you get fired. With unemployment fee of 9.9%, and no tendency to bypass down, infants with degree and instructors are everywhere on the line searching for jobs.
