I'm 53 and have been working in the same field for more than 30 years. I'm tired of all the stupid sucking up and having to listen to snotty 30 year olds who are more skilled socially tell me what to do in my technical field. I'd love to retire but I'll probably never have enough money. So I'm working in a job I hate that I can't leave because my family needs the income and medical benefits. And don't tell me to "follow my bliss," cut back on expenses and just have a wonderful time. In America, if you don't have decent health benefits, you're screwed and if you're 53, the chances of getting hired by someone are pretty slim. I'm also working a lot of hours and between that and a difficult home situation, I don't have time to "take classes and improve myself." Not that it matters. I'm so sick of corporate America but I'm stuck with my life. So, how do you suck it up and deal with this? I don't want to hear from anyone under 50. You have nothing to tell me.

HBK, so you had nothing to say and just decided to add something because...thank you for admitting you're a moron - that's the first step in improving yourself - actually, that's not true - since you're a moron, you're pretty much hopeless - you'll probably wind up in a corner office

I am 68 so I guess I qualify to answer your question. When I was about your age I had the same problem. What I did was I prepared for the day I could leave the company without having to worry about financial matters.

My wife and I decided to into business. We have four kids and two of them were in college at that time so it was really difficult to make both ends meet. My wife worked full time on the business while I endured the same things you are going through right now in the office. To make a long story short we succeeded and we are financially independent right now. I hope this helps.

Peace and blessings!

I went back to school, actually I never stopped but, this time it was to get away from what your describing, and then, started looking for something that I was always interested in, something that I knew would make me happy.

I read where a large percentage of the male population changes occupations or trades, some as much as three times by the time they retire.

There is a dentist in Las Vegas Nevada that was a fireman, after retiring, he went back to school, collected all his credits and went on the get his dental degree, as he did this, he also got his law degree.

Buy a classic convertible from the 1970's. Cruise around on the weekends.
Take another driver so you can drink some beer and enjoy your time off.
Let those 30 year olds do their thing,...they are no happier than you....
