I just started at a larger retail company as a recent college graduate with the position of assistant manager. I work with about 20 other people.

Currently I am in training and won't be in the store that I will be working at. My question is, what is considered normal socialization with my co-workers? What is expected out of an assistant manager at a retail company in terms of how he gets along with his co-workers and the people he supervises?

I realize that it is important that the manager is not friends with his co-workers. But really, when is that line crossed? I try to avoid touching and talking about personal things.

I have had a number of jobs due to the domino effect of a big mill closing, lay offs, downsizing, not making enough to live on or support the family, and even not being liked because I could'nt be intimidated by former bosses and refuse to kiss *** or be part of a clique.

I just graduated with a Liberal Arts degree and I don't have any professional experience. Is it appropriate to go find my college literature teacher and ask him if I can use him as a reference on a job resume for a writing position? I was one of his best students.

I have to deal with a person who is in her 30s and still acts like a child. Doesnt want to do her work always taking breaks. When i ask her general work questions she wants to raise her voice to me, like a kid instead acting like a professional. What should I do because i have to deal with her on a daily basics and I don't want the office or the people we service to suffer because of her attitude.

I sent my resume to over 24 jobs in the Houston area and haven't had one repsonse yet. Where do I start looking? The career services at my university has jobs in the Dallas area only and I don't want to live there, so how do I actively find a job in a city that I do not live in? I work full time now while I am completing my degree and I do not want to leave my current position without finding a new job so I am stuck between a rock and a hard place. Someone please give me some good advise.

Here I am, at the time in my life where I have to choose a path to follow, and I don't even know all of my options.

Is there a website or something that I could maybe look at and read about career options?

Please and thank-you.

Had an Interview today, it started ok and as ive been to the same firm before they had a profile of me already. The woman doing the interview noticed that i have back problems and i also have a phobia, she said 'Ever considered applying for a disability allowance'? I stood up and told her to sod off and stormed out the factory.

Can i or should i make a formal complaint against her or the company? She was being sarcastic/joking about it when she said it.

Age/Transportation - I'm turning sixteen in August and will [hope to god] get my drivers liscense the first try so I can drive to a job. I reside in Wisconsin.

People Skills - I have EXCELLENT people skills. Helping people just enough without passing into annoyance is my speciality. I am very good at interviews and one-on-one situations. Being a leader and taking charge are some of my strong points.

Academic Skills - I'm a high honours student who has been recommended for academic and leadership events. GPA around 3.9.

Others - I have probably one of the biggest work ethic cores of any teenager. I never, ever give up at a challenge or request.

With all this in mind, where would be good places to work?

A few I've thought of were [and why]:

American Eagle - love clothes
Gamestop - love video games
Rue 21 - love clothes

I'd like to work in retail, since I love selling to ppl.

I'd personally not want to work at like a fast food place beacuse I hate food.

What I mean by this is should I call the place back after awhile and check on the status of my application? If so, how long should I wait before doing so? Would it be ok to call, or should I go up there in person? Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated. I've been trying very hard to get a job for a couple months now and no luck. All I'm doing is turning in applications and never checking back in. I think that may be my problem. Anyway, thanks for reading and your help.

I have a few problems with my work at the moment. I work in a corporate office in the city centre and have worked here for the past 6 months. I am not really clicking with anyone in my department (immediate crew of 7) but also find it hard to initiate conversations with other staff around the building. (260 staff) I work with one lady who talks harshly about people to me but then I get fearful she is doing the same about me. I've approached her about this and she has just palmed off my queries and left it at that. I also feel she talks to the boss about things she might over hear I'm doing in my personal life or when I talk on my mobile because he knows things I don't tell him. I'm wondering if there's any websites or books on office politics because I really like my job but I'm pretty naive when it comes to all this manipulation and backstabbing. I'm 24 years old and am just getting my career started so I refuse to leave this company. It's my dream job that I've fought hard for.....
