It's really all about what you want to do. Oh and guess what the first maybe even the second year of college is all about? Trying to figure out what you want to do. If you still dont know what you want to do by the time you graduate then your first year of college take the main classes that everybody has to take and take a class here and there of subjects that you like. I, for example, really like science and math. I also love teaching and I don't mind speaking in public. I bet you can guess what I am going to school for. Yup. Teaching science and math. Or you can be like my boyfriend who is taking chemical engineering because it is the hardest course of study the university has to offer and he loves peoples reaction when he tells them what he is going to school for. It really is up to you.

Why would your mom like for you to be a nurse? Are you good of taking care of the family when they are sick or just because she thinks it is a good career. BTW if you do become a nurse I think a traveling nurse would be the best! They get to travel all over the place and get paid amazingly good money.

You should write down a list of jobs that you think would interest you, why you think you would be good for that job, and why the job would be good for you. Think about it being something that you wouldn't mind going to everyday. There are soo many opportunites out there it is just a matter of what you want to be. And if that doesn't help you then go to your local Community college if you have one and ask about taking a career test. You answer questions about things you like and don't like and it will say hey you would be good for such and such job which you would be able to narrow down from there.

If you are going to college, that would be a good start. They give you a test to see what you would be good at. You could take the general study courses that you have to take for the first year or 2 years. By then you should have figured out what you want to do.
If you even have an inkling of going into nursing, go for it. There are so many things you can go into and if you don't like one, you can go into another branch. It is something you could fall back on all your life, even if you decide to go into something different. Even if you decide that isn't for you after you are done, you have the knowledge that will benefit you and your family all your life.
As you grow up and have a family and they get sick, you know what to do and as your parents age you know what to do, or at least where to look for help. It gives you so much common sense and a feeling that you have done something good.
I was an LPN and I quit when I had kids. I have used that knowledge every day of my life. I really wish I had kept working now that I look back, at least one or two days a week or even a month, because now that the kids are grown up, I could still have a job. Though I do know several places I could go and probably get a job tomorrow if I want to.
Think about it a lot.
An education is never wasted.

If you go ahead and attend college you don't have to declare a major for the first 2 years. That will give you time to try out various subjects. What is the one thing that you enjoy doing or that you are good at with little or know effort? What thing brings you the most joy when you accomplish it? Find that thing that is not a burden to complete and brings satisfaction or a sense of wholeness. It may be too early for you to know the answer to these questions but this is a good place to start. Your mother's suggestions are wonderful and secure means of earning a living and I'm sure she wants you to find a profession that will provide financial rewards.

My mother insisted that I should go to school to become a teacher or a lawyer. She began buying me books as young as ten years old on those professions and when I entered college after high school I dropped out twice. It wasn't until years later that I realized I wanted to help people, I returned to college and graduated *** laude at the top of my class. Because I was chasing my passion not a paycheck. When you find your passion the paycheck will come that is a guarantee.

Do not feel bad about not knowing what you want to do for a living, most people have that problem, even after University.

I would go to your guidance office, they have a lot of tests and things you can take yo help identify what sort of careers you might like to do.

Also look at all the jobs you have done in the past. Write down the things you liked best about each job. For example if you liked the interaction with people the best when you were a waitress write it down. When you have completed your list take it to your guidance office and they can help you find the jobs the best match the activities you like doing.

Your mom is right that you need to start thinking about it.
Sounds like you have a lot of people skills, & you're reliable.
Nursing is a field which is in high demand these days.
There are many different levels & options available.
You could talk to a local community college about it.
You can usually take aptitude tests through your school.
Talk to the guidance counsellor. What are your grades like?
That might indicate where your future could lie.

We're in the same situation, or kinda, because I kinda figured it out about two weeks ago.
Try going after something related to a childhood dream or think about something that you really liked or enjoyed doing when you were little and link it to a career or job.
Though I wanted to be in all sorts of things at a younger age, I finally thought about it through and got it. That helped me. I don't think that you necessarily have to work on something that you have experience on. Do something that won't get you bored or frustrated after a while. Do something that can last and that you'll be successful in.
Best wishes.

Nursing is a good field, and computers is a good field.

If you are pretty and personable, then you might consider broadcasting. Being a news anchor or weatherperson sounds like an easy job with a good salary. Good luck.

Don't waste your time with work at home schemes.

If you graduate college, then you can choose lots of jobs later on in life.

I wish everybody would just lay off kids/teenagers about this. Most adults don't even know what they want to do and even when they do, they end up making several career changes throughout the years. Cut yourself some slack...be on the lookout for things you like when you go to college but don't feel bad if you don't know how to spend the next 40+ years of your life.

look do not feel bad -- 75 percent of the teenagers are in the same boat as you -- if you still have not decided when you are ready for college you can always spend the first year taking require courses that apply to any degree. my advise would enjoy your senior year and have as much fun as you can and still make the honor roll.
