I'm currently a waitress and would like to know if some of you other servers have little tricks to increase tips. I've found that giving little dollar store toys to fussy kids and having my nails done (clean and hygienic looking, I guess) greatly increases my tips.

Please, no customer suggestions unless it's unique because no offense, but if you haven't served, you probably don't get it. Most of you will give me vague, common sense responses like "Be prompt, friendly, and make sure my drink is always filled, etc." and well, those are "DUH" answers...obviously I'm not thinking "Oh, I think I'll let them sit there with an empty glass for a while and I think I'll just stand here for 20 minutes instead of greeting them".

I need an entry level job that with give me the chance to prove that I'm a great asset to their company. I have years of customer service and cash handling experience. I'm detail oriented but I never seem to have all of what jobs are looking for. I'm a great worker and I just need a chance, what am I doing wrong?

I have a bachelor's degree and most of my recent work experience is in the finance field or as a math tutor. I am in school to get my certification to be a high school math teacher. My current tutor job is drying up (going out of business) and I don't really have many other options I can think of.

I figure that working as a waitress would be a good job pay wise, as I am in class (or doing observations at schools) from 8am-5pm, so that leaves out most office work.

I've never worked as a waitress, though I do have good cash handling experience and with a degree I'm obviously more than intelligent enough for the job.

Also, I am not adversed to working in a bar or strip club if that becomes an option.

However, what are some potential weak points and how can I overcome them in an interview? I'd like to work at a higher priced place than Denny's or Applebee's to yield higher tips, obviously.

I'm also open to suggestions for other jobs.

I am 14 and just got my eagle on October 1st. It was a happy moment coming out of the board of review, I have to admit. I have been in scouting for a while and to get Eagle felt good. Does it really help you get into a college of choice? Will it help me get a job that I really want? Will adults, coaches and teachers look at me any differently if they know?

Two days ago I handed in an application at Barnes and Noble because my current job only gives me 15 hours per week, which is obviously not enough to pay for rent. I didn't expect to hear from Barnes and Noble so soon (only a few hours), and today after an interview I got hired full time starting next week. I can't keep my current job any longer due to schedule conflicts, so the only option I have now is to quit. The problem is that I'm afraid it's rude to my current boss to quit on him so abruptly and without giving him a two week notice to hire someone else. And it's not like I don't like my current job, it's just that I need more hours than what my current boss can possibly give me in order to pay the bills. So what am I supposed do? How should I break it to my boss?
