I am a 27 year old male. I have been working full time for a nonprofit making $33k a year. I am also half way to getting my bachelors. During the past couple of years I have been going part time to school which has worked out ok. I am getting to the point now where it is becoming more and more difficult to get classes that work with my schedule. So I am considering quitting my job at the end of this year so I can give my all to finishing school. Financially, I have $30k in savings, my billls are very low. . I also make a few hundred bucks a month selling on ebay on the side which pays my bills and allows me to not use any of my savings, I don't pay rent cause I do snow removal and grass cutting for my building. My job would not allow me to go to part time. I am a very smart person but in the past have made some bad choices when it comes to school work etc. I am going for a degree in finance & accounting. What should I do?

Hi,
Mom and now 21yr son were on the original lease. Son wasnt living here fulltime before. Mom got married and moved out and now he lives here. Its a long story and I have checked with housing dept and rentcontrol thats how it works.

Anyway, my question is my tenant throws cigarette butts in the lawn and in the plants. Can I ask him to not do that? I dont know if he is smoking indoors. I havent done inspection in a while. No one in my family smokes and when our guests smoke outside the house we have them put the butt in trash bin.
My tenant sits on the stairs and smokes I guess and there are lot of butts in the rose bushes around. Can I ask him to clean it up and not do it again? I dont like the way that area looks.

Thanks for your answers.

I'm waiting for prices to soften so I can buy a house the right way.

Why is it that people in the middle, who show a little self restraint, keep getting hosed?

Where was my bailout in '95? Oh that's right that mortage was FHA insured!

I believe that was the point of the new sub prime mortage schema.
Find ways to get around mortage insurance.
Now that the banks are holding the bag they want another bailout.

S&L's, FHA, How many chances do you need?

Mr. Greenspan why don't you admit you schrewed up and didn't watch the hen house.

So I put my mom, who has horrible credit, on one of my credit cards as an authorized user and she maxed out the $1000 credit limit. I paid it off when I got a balance transfer deal from another card and she said she would make the payments. Instead, she racked up another $1000 on the other card and hasn't paid me for the other card for three months. On top of that I let her put another $1000 on another card for car repairs. She just blows it off not realizing, or caring, that this could screw me over for life. What should I do?

my boyfriend's father was forced into early retirement because of the cancer he has. he signed up with Cobra, as he was no longer eligible of the coverage he had through his job, stating that Cobra was the only company to accept pre-existing conditions at a rate of $800/month. he is now faced with a life or death situation, needing a rare radiation treatment costing $50,000 per tumor and there are 3 in his abdomen. of course, there is no guarantee of this procedure's success, but his Dr.'s are optimistic. Insurance will not cover any of this! if there are no other options in the way of insurance coverage, there could possibly be a significant payment left for them (or his wife) that is certainly NOT feasible.
Please advise.

I owe $25,500 at 7.74% for a home equity loan. Unfortunately, I can pay only the interest for now (and until my car is paid off in another 16 months), and the interest charge is $168 /month. Balancing that out (in theory, I guess) is my IRA account with $31,000 - earning 4.87%.

I’m tempted to cash out my IRA to pay off my home equity loan, and put the rest aside to pay the tax penalty. Then I wouldn’t have the HELOC debt, but I also wouldn’t have any retirement savings either. (I'm 47 with no other retirement acct. or savings. And about $5,000 in credit card debt.)

What should I do? Is one option smarter from a financial perspective? Or should I just leave things as is -- where the two accounts seem to even things out ... but then what's the point of keeping them? Any help from financial experts would be greatly appreciated!

In 2005, I was temporarily living and working in Michigan, but a legal permenant resident of New York, when a person in Florida died. I inherited $5000, which I received later that year, while living in NY and unemployed. I filed a federal 1040, an NY resident income tax return and a MI non-resident income tax return, and reported the income from employment in MI on all three. (I also claimed a credit on the NY return for the duplicate state income tax on the income from MI.) Do I have to report the inheritance to any of the three states, and to which states (if any) do I pay inheritance tax? (Do not worry about the estate taxes due to the federal government; someone else is responsible for that.)

My son is doing a school project, where he establishes an account on http://www.howthemarketworks.com and invests $100K. At the end of the semester, the person who has mad the most wins. Any tips on stocks to buy would be appreciated. I'm trying to encourage him to do research, but we have to make some purchases - he currently has AEO, EBAY, GOOG, KO, KSS, LUV, MSFT, TGT and is down by $3 overall.

Use the following inventory information for the month of July.

July 1: Beginning Inventory (20 units at $20) = $400
July 7: Purchases (70 units at $21) = $1,470
July 22: Purchases (10 units at $22) = $220

A physical count of merchandise inventory on July 30 reveals that there are 35 units on hand.

So, my question is:

Using the LIFO inventory method, the amount allocated to ending inventory in July is:

a) $680
b) $715
c) $700
d) $665

and, Using the FIFO method, the amount allocated to cost of goods sold for july is:

a) $1345
b) $1380
c) $1390
d) $1425

THANK YOU!

It may be a great ad...but then the network, TV station or cable company RUINS it by playing it AD NAUSEUM...and I just think the advertisers must not watch TV that much and leave all the decision making to the ad agencies who make more when the ads they create come with big promotion budgets to absolutely SATURATE the market.

I'm getting fed up, though, with so many saturation campaigns. I think a lot of advertisers are just ruining television now. The proliferation of so many cable channels has brought a lot of change...some good, but also a lot of bad because there is so much competition now for leisure time with the advancement of internet as an entertainment alternative. So the response is to pound the viewing audience with so many repetitive messages wherever you can find them, and I for one, just don't like it. It's taking the whole medium of television down.

I live next to people in a duplex that have a dog against the lease contract. They have been asked by both us and the landlord to tie the dog up. I have called the town since we the town we live in has a leash law but they still refuse to just tie the dog up. It has come after me and barks at me when it is outside, and it weighs probably over 85 lbs and could take me out. It has not bite me only run after me snarled and barked. I don't know if the dog is licensed or registered but I do know that they lied about the dog and have told us that they will not tie it up. I'm scared of it and I don't want to get bit, even though I see that as being the only thing that may make them actually tie the dog up. What do I do if they won't listen to the landlord who won't evict them and the town won't do anything unless they catch the dog outside which they happen to make sure it gets back inside whenever the dog warden comes. Please help.
