britain was a very innvative taxer, the two famous ones that broke the camels back in each case was the Tea Tax in the US which gave rise to the famous Boston Tea Party revolt, and in India the alt tax, which led Ghandi on his famous march which marked the begiining of the end for Britian in India.....

1764 - Sugar Act--revenue-producing tax
1765 - Quartering Act required colonists to pay to house British soldiers. Stamp Act sets internal taxes on legal documents, newspapers, etc.
1767 - Townshend Duties imposed on imported goods to pay colonial officials. (Levied taxes and duties on just about everything.)
1773 - Tea Act reduces duty but leads to Boston Tea Party
1774 (Intolerable Acts) - New Quartering Act broadly expands British Army's right to quarter troops in homes, buildings. Boston Port Act closes harbor until tea is paid for.
