So I put my mom, who has horrible credit, on one of my credit cards as an authorized user and she maxed out the $1000 credit limit. I paid it off when I got a balance transfer deal from another card and she said she would make the payments. Instead, she racked up another $1000 on the other card and hasn't paid me for the other card for three months. On top of that I let her put another $1000 on another card for car repairs. She just blows it off not realizing, or caring, that this could screw me over for life. What should I do?

Well to start, how about we start by cutting all financial ties with your mother, if you somehow haven't learned that already. You are what is called an enabler. After you have cut your losses, see if you can get your mother to help you pay, but in all likelihood, you will need to get a couple of extra jobs and get this balance paid off as soon as possible. Learn from the mistake, dig your way out, and never do this again.

If your mom has a debit card, use that instead. With a credit card, you have to sign, and some stores might have problems with someone signing if it's not their card. With a debit, you just enter a pin. When I go out shopping, I usually take my dad's debit and stores don't have problems with that. Good luck!

First, cancel all the cards that have your mother listed as an authorized user. Tell her to get a job or even a 2nd job and start paying up cause you aren't helping her anymore!

Once you can be a victim. Twice your a willing participent. Take the cards back and contact the CC companies and don't let her be authorized again. Its not your job to repair her credit at your own's expense.

Take her off your cards until she learns to manage money properly. Since you authorized her to use your card, you are responsible to pay the debts she incurred. Good luck in getting that money back from her.
Of course she will be angry with you, but that's HER problem, not yours. You have no obligation to handle your mother's immature use of your credit.

You are legally liable for all of it. It may be best for you not to have a credit card either, then it wouldn't be a temptation to let her use it. I agree with the previous answer, you are an enabler for her lifestyle.

I have a great idea, let me borrow your credit cards instead of her, this way, she can't charge anything on them.
I promise not to max them out. I won't spend over $500. That will save you $500.
What do you think? Is that a deal or what?
Oh, you think I am kidding? But, you were dumb enough to let her have your credit cards, AGAIN, after she screwed you out of $1,000, you certainly must be dumb enough to let a stranger on the internet use them also.
