Business & Finance - 2 June 2007

I live in the USA (originally from Leeds) and am surrending a policy that will yield 12000 pounds. I am planning to deposit this into my USA bank account from my UK bank account but wanted to put the question out.... does anyone know if there is a better way to do this so I don't get hammered with commission fees, handling etc. Its only a one time transaction.

You order something online (a small business). You pay (Paypal). Your promise the item within 4 days. 10 days later still no item. You call, leave messages, email, and fax the company, and no responses. Does Paypal step in to recover the money, and how would you go about contacting the business and to let other's know, NOT to shop with them?

IRA and a Roth....which are invested in mutual funds. Do I have to claim my gains (Interest,Divedens,est,est est) when I file my taxes every year or is it taxed as a whole at distrabution time?

These banks are sick. Each month I must get about 5 to 10 offers to sign up for new credit card accounts, some of them pre-approved. My credit is certainly less than perfect.

20 years ago, I granted a deed of easement to an electrical company for a telegraph pole situated in my back garden.

I was paid a one off lump sum of money at the time and the peiod on the agreement was 20 years.

That 20 year peiod is now nearing its end.

I sold the house 7 years ago and have just received a solicitor's letter from the people I sold the house to asking me to pay them a fixed % of the amount originally paid to me for those years of the agreement that they have lived there and I have not - i.e. 7 years worth of the amount originally paid to me.

The payment received was a one off lump sum and not an annual fee.

Do they have any right to claim this money from me and do they have a case?

I have been summoned to small claims court - should I lawyer up?

All useful advice very gratefully received. The house is in Wales and therefore subject to the law of England & Wales.

I worked for an Attorney for 2 yrs, left him in February. He did not pay the previous secretarys taxes so she turned him in. She worked 10 yrs. He just got his license pulled. He was paying me 1/2 check & 1/2 cash (scum bag!) but I payed my taxes w/ H & R block. Am I in the clear? or will they come after me?
