You have applied for another job elsewhere and have been chosen as finalist. Before a final decision is made, the other employer wants to speak to your current boss. The new employer wants to verify details about your position, ect. However, prior to the other job speaking to your current boss, you have to accept the new offer. There is no guarantee of employment. Summing it up, how does someone approach their current boss (after accepting the new offer) in explaining that this other employer wants to speak to him, without causing too many hard feelings? There is a chance that the new employer could fall through. Also, note that a written resignation will not be submitted at the time the current boss is notified about the prospective employer calling. A written resignation will only be given if hired by the prospect. Hope this isn't too confusing....

My friend and I are both college students with low incomes. With college, we don't have time to get a part time job so we started to talk about ways that we could make a little extra money to help out. We came up with the idea of making an website for an online business. We love photography and crafts so we thought about selling leather crafts such as belts and wallets and photographs of country landscapes in customized frames. Any advice on how to start this sort of business? What would be the best host to start a website with?(We need something very affordable) Would we need to get a business license? How would be go about sending out orders? Would we wait til we got the money or check before shipping the orders out? Please help us get started on this so that we can have some extra money to spend on supplies for the next semester and next year. Thanks!

If you felt your agent didn't practice ethically, and as a result of her substandard service your house didn't sell...and eventually ended up in foreclosure what could you do? Do these people answer to anyone? Have you known someone this happened to?

For example, some sort of website database?
That way I might be able to take back unwanted gifts and receive store credit.

My boyfriend has just started a new job and always comments on how his colleagues constantly make fun and are unusually harsh to him. He pretends it doesnt bother him but i can tell its getting him quite down. Hes always had alot of respect from his family and friends so i guess hes not used to it. Any tips that dont involve violence and just telling them where to go, cos the first would cost his job and the second has been tried. Like at school they'd tell you to just ignore it but in a mature work place, there should be something he can do?

I worked my reg. hours through out the week, and I worked on Saturday (i got OT) but on Tuesday I got sick and filled out a form to use my sick time to replace that day. The owner's wife change it and used my OT time instead of my sick time. I got pissed and asked for all my vacation hours. Was I wrong? They didn't ask me if they should've done that, I just feel they should've asked!

I am employed at a Jamba Juice location in Bakersfield, CA, and I have just been informed that I am required to attend a Christmas Party. My family does not celebrate Christmas, or any other winter holiday, for that matter. In truth, in the past three weeks, I have worked 2 hours all together, so I feel no particular loyalty to this company. I have also been informed that I am expected to spend $20 on a gift for another employee, which effectively wipes out my earnings for the past pay period. So, my question is, can I be ordered to attend a non-paid, religiously based company function?

I want to be a chef so badly, but also a teacher when I am older. Which should I chose, because I have no clue. I love food (cooking, mostly....not eating, for some odd reason, unless it is really good food) but I also love kids (of all ages) alot. And I can't be both, so HELP!

I believe I'm just like any other college student. Confused with what to major in . . .I honestly have no idea.

I like reading and writing, but honestly, where is that going to get me? Please don't say things like author or poet, these are very admirable careers, but obviously very hard to "break" into.

Any ideas? It's awful not to have any clue, and I'm very interested in hearing other's ideas. . .

If you inherited a large chunk of money, would you be pratical and invest it or live out a fantasy? I could use the money to remodel my kitchen, or move to France for a year and study art? I have always wanted to live in Paris and paint.

What would you do?

My husband is currently working temporarily for a small dump trucking company. He is paid by the hour and gets an additional one (1) hour pay for travel time (even though it may take him 2 hours to get to and from the job). He has to get to work alot earlier, because he usually has to air up tires and he was informed by the owner that this time is on him. He has reported the tire problems to the proper people and so have other drivers.
Our question is, under wage law, shouldn't he be paid for all time spent during the course of duty,, or is the 1 1/2 hours he has to spend airing his tires on him? His company is based in Missouri.
I think he is being not only taking advantage of by his employer for non-payment, but also at a eminent risk for a DOT shut down.
What are your thoughts?
