First, you're not screwed. Just file as soon as you can. If you owe money, the IRS will send you a bill that will include (reasonable) interest and some penalty. It's no biggie, but it costs more the longer you delay.

Of course, if they owe you money, you don't get to charge them interest. Bummer.

Links to IRS's free online service is below, but it won't help in your case:

Any accountant, even the H&R Block type of storefronts can do prior year taxes.

You can try some of the online services for free, but that's usually just for Federal tax returns, not for state or local ones, if you have them.

You can also buy prior year tax software too:

You can get the paper forms, fill them out, and then send it in to the IRS. If you owe money (your tax liability is greater than the taxes that were withheld), then you will be subject to penalties (late payment and late filing) and interest from April 15 to now. If you are due money back (you will get a refund), then you won't be subject to penalties and interest, since they are assessed based on the tax due.

If you are due a refund, you have until April 15, 2009 to file your return, or else you will lose the refund forever. If you owe tax and you never file, they can go after you at any time for the money, since the statute of limitations for them to audit you only starts to run once you file the return.

I am not sure that you can file on line with it being a year ago. If you file taxes this year, file last years also. Your not in trouble or anything there maybe some kind of late fee or some thing like that just make sure you file....If I recall correctly you can file up to five years back!!

Download the forms from irs.gov. You can do that yourself, but you can't file them online this late.

If you owe, you will also pay a penalty for being late. If you continue to put it off, the penalty will grow, so don't wait to do this. If you have a refund coming, you'll get your money and there won't be a penalty.

I would go get professional help. It will to late to do them without penalties so it would be best to have the professional guide you.
