How long after a bankruptcy before i can open a checking acct.?

It's been a year in Aug. I tried to open one about 6 months after with NO luck at all. How long do i have to wait do you think??

that makes no sense, everyone needs a checking account, join a credit union or speak to a bankruptcy attorney something seems weird
