I employ a craftsman because i do not have the nohow to do a good job....if i pay craftsmen...who incidently are not cheap...i expect a good standard and not something that i could have done a better DIY job myself...! i started working at menards about a month ago. i started on a thursday and worked that day that next friday and saturday. they pay bi-weekly so that was the end of the pay period. the HR guy said i might have a check but he couldnt promise that i would be on payroll in time. the check was suppose to come the week after i started. i didnt get one. so its been two weeks since i should ahve got the check, three and a couple days since i started. heres my problem. the HR guy said that i will be gettin the check from the first three days that i worked, or the first check i should ahve received. they wont combine that one with the one i should be getting for a whole two weeks. so ill be check behind until i dont work there anymore when then i will get one for the last two weeks of my employment. WHAT IM ASKING IS CAN THEY WITHHOLD MY CHECK FOR EXTRA TIME LIKE THAT???

I am not sure what to do about health insurance after I graduate from college (in a few months). I know that I am going to need some time to job hunt (my field is very competitive) and I would also like to do some volunteer work before I start my career. Problem is, if I am not a full-time student, my parents' health insurance won't cover me, and if I don't or can't find a job with benefits right away, I will be left uninsured. Any ideas where I can get affordable health insurance for short-term (no more than a year and a half) ??? Thanks!

Whenever I (could be anybody, also), rent an apartment or house, the landlord charges you damage deposit, (sometimes the deposit is the same amount as the rent), let's say $500.00. I've lived in the premise for, say 10-15 years. Through the years the usual damage of everyday living, needs new paint, taps, ect. has happened. The landlord all through these years does minimum repairs, with some years where nothing has been repaired and the maitenance has gone to " pot ", so to speak. The time comes when I move out, and the deposit is not returned because of the damage ( repairs that weren't done). My question, how can landlords get away with this? Also, how much deposit are landlords required to ask for? Has anybody else gone through a situation as such? Also, rentalsman is no help as, it boils down to, the landlord's word against mine, a prominent man of the community. I need some reasonable explanations.

Here's the thing - my sister and i are sick of the corporate world. She is in business and knows about insurance and numbers. I am more artistic and creative. Is there some kind of business that we could start and go into for ourselves? [no comments about working with family please:)] I think a restaurant / soda shop would be great, but that means working 24/7. Something that could travel easily would be nice, like an online or service business of some kind. We both like our weekends and vacations (tho that probably wouldnt work well for a small biz just starting out. Anyone have any kind of suggestions? Oh yeah, we don't have all that much money to start either. Good luck!

for replacement windows. He doesn't have any debts and his credit card is well up to date. (He showed me his experian report and there are no late payments, ccjs or anything negative at all). He isn't financially linked with anyone else and has checked that there are no outstanding debts on his house.

Anyone got any suggestions why he can't get any credit and what he can do about it?

Right now, I'm really leaning towards work for the money...after having a father who is laid off, and a mom who isn't making all that much.

Granted, our family isn't struggling to live (I'm going to college, I have a car, my brother has a car, parents are divorced) - but it seems like to make it nowadays, you have to just work for the money....I would love to go into the computer industry, but there just aren't jobs. I'm looking for a career in pharmacy, maybe something medical, just for the strong job security. I mean, I could always take up computers and tech as a hobby, right?

What do you all think?
