I reported a leak from the bath to my insurance company back in april. the man came to assess the job, outcome new bath req and replace small flooring area underneith bath. cowboys turn up a month later and find another fault, the toilet has a crack in it and has leaked damaging the floor. Oh sorry mate we cant start the job cause thats another claim, another 50 quid excess and another month ahead the man turns up and by this time the cieling below is rotten and needs replacing, the man says he cant start yet cause the cieling has to be taken out by another firm of cowboys. two weeks later cowboy firm 2 turn up and take cieling out, the day after cowboys 1 come and replace the cieling and floor in the bathroom but a plumber (cowboy 3) has to take the bath and toilet out first. When i ask cowboy 3 what time is the new bath and toilet going back in, he says what bath? dont know anything about that mate. I ring the cowboy boss in his saloon and ask where my new bath is he says ill ave one for you this time next week, F*&%^"^^* ell I say, you mean after all these months of waiting you dont have a bathin waiting? no sorry mate. The plumber is about to leave and i ask what time will he be back to put the toilet back in, sometime tomorrow fella unless you could put it back in for us ta. F*&^%$&^&&** off I say. He didnt come back so I did it myself. Meanwhile downstairs the cowboys have done the cieling but when i look I cant believe they have stood on the kitchen worktop and cracked it bad. I ring up next day and cowboy boss tells me oh yer mate my boys noticed that so they took a picture of it to prove it wasnt them. Mmmm, can you imagine how pissed off I am, well it goes on, you see when the cieling was done it had to be re artexed, ENTER cowboy 4. He artexes the cieling and while he is doing it splashes it all over the kitchen walls he has also damaged the cieling in the dining room adj to the kitchen. He comes back a week later to give me some paint to do it myself if i want, I tell him F&^%**&^** off as I am now ready to kill someone, he paints like a 7 year old child, after he rides off into the sunset to F&*^& someone elses day up, I clean up his mess and repaint the kitchen myself. My Insurance company couldnt believe all this so I took photos along the way, they believe me now but I only get a sorry for the last FIVE MONTHS of absolute hassle. This job could have been done in a day, instead my insurers brought in the biggest team of cowboys this side of texas and it all ended up taking FIVE MONTHS. Be very carefull who you let into your house.

Sadly there are so many idiots out there who just want to take the money and run. The only way to be really sure nowadays is word of mouth from friends or relatives. Other than that - someone with a full order book is obviously better than someone who can do the job next day. Never be scared to ask to see a portfolio of work by the tradesman or ask for a phone number of a past customer who you can call for a reference. Some may get pee'd off if you ask but a genuine craftsman wont mind. You're paying the money you deserve good work xx

Welcome to the club you now have a free life membership.
Ever since they did away with the old fashioned appenteship, that took 4 years or more and replaced it with the nvq which takes 6 months all tradesmen are a waste of space.
Next time find some old boy semi retired you will get the job done properly. By the way NVQ stands for not very qualified.

Sorry you have had a bad experience with tradesmen, my husband is a joiner and would never leave a job or take money for a job someone is not happy with so they aren't all the same. If someone can start quickly then their not busy so generally speaking someone who can start quickly doesn't have very much work, if you get what I'm trying to say. Stay away from tradesmen who can start 2moro...

The Amish men around where I live do real good work. I kept hearing , hire the Amish. They put up building the oldtime way, of course they are not union so you hear a lot of feed back about that. They have other trades also, most of it is like was done in days past. I worked for many years on construction and also as a serviceman, I tried to treat the customer as I would want to be treated. I am retired now and people come to me to help them to repair something and now that I am retired they think I should work for nothing. So I also have complaints about those who want something done.

Yes I fed up with poeple who are supposed to be able to do something I can't - but turns out I could actually do it better than them!
You have to be SO careful when choosing the people for the job you want done. Check them out, get references if you can, make they are accredited trades people too.
Better luck next time.

Its better to be pi**ed off than pi**ed on.
Really though my girlfriend called a plumber out while i was working away. it was because the heating wasn't working. This was because i'd disconnected the radiators and cut the system off. All the plumber did was told my gf she needed a new water pump as he couldn't diagnose the problem. so she said ok and now we got lumped with a £230 bill.
