The head of our department at work is retiring, and there will be a celebration for him this month. One of the ladies in the office is taking contributions for a gift. Since I am the youngest employee and I've been here the shortest amount of time, I've never done this before (I'm also not up on my Miss Manners), I have no idea how much would be appropriate to contribute. Any ideas?

people who can't make themselves understood when speaking English?
I don't want any racist answers to this question.
I just thought that being able to communicate well, in the language of the people who ring up, would be a basic requirement of the job?
If you were the boss of a Cycle Courier service, would you employ someone who was unable to ride a bike?
Of course, many people who contact a call centre will have English as a second language, so why not have afore mentioned operators there just to deal with them?
Then everyone would be happy!

This is a very reputed bank. I issued two cheques payable to the bank in 2005. To my utter dismay, the transaction took place but the money went to two 'persons' one of who was the bank employee and the other someone unknown to me. When I wrote to the bank about this, I was informed that the cheques were payable "To (the name of the bank) A/c. (the employee)" and "To (the name of the bank) A/c. (Mr. X)". I was shocked as I had issued the cheques payable to the bank only. To me it appeared as though the other names were added by one of their employee who was posing as though he was helping me. It seems now that this employee has swindled me of my money with both the cheques. The only proof I have is a copy of my cheque book log where I have clearly written in the Payee column the bank's name in both cases.

I would like to know whether the bank is obliged to physically show me those cheques and whether they are obliged to give me photocopies for further action. Please help.

There was some damage in the bath and it was noted in my move out. She said she was going to get her carpet guy to quote it for repair. (I had the carpets cleaned the day before my final walkthru). No visable dirt, no smell. She said all was fine.A week later she calls and says that her carpet guy found urine under the area in the dining room after pulling up the carpet. Why would he pull it up unless he was looking for something to charge me with? And also the carpet has not been replaced since the complex opened 4 yrs ago. Now they are trying to charge me for it. He was only suppose to quote for a repair to the bath. It doesnt sound legal. Do I have any rights?

Some women with a manly occupation look and act manly, more than on average. Do these women choose manly careers because of their innate manly personality, or do they start developing manly traits as a side-effect after choosing manly careers?

Can someone give me advice on the following strategy. For example: Buy 100 shares of Google currently at 390 to hold for a while.

I buy a Jan 07, 390 put for $25.90.

Then I sell a Jan 08 call 500 at $28.80.

I have covered the cost of the put and even pocketed a little. I have protected the downside completely and can make a profit up to 500 for Google. Is there something I am missing. THese are current prices BTW. Thanks

This goes out to all the idiots who answered me before saying take your personal problems elsewhere, or i was dooped for having a 5th grade education. But actually i have $250,000 term life insurance, max out my Roth IRA everymonth, and have my own Primerica business. So for all you EMPLOYEES, or corporate slaves, i ask you, how much are you putting into your Roth? And lets not lie now, ok. Oh yea can you tell me what the rule of 72 is? Have fun at your 9-5.
