In my small business, I have considered hiring somone part-time for filing and other routine tasks. I am at the point where my bills are paid and I have enough coming into cover a part-time employee. But the thought of being an employer, dealing with taxes, scares me. I want to do everthing legally. Any tips on what I need to consider and where to look? So far, I spend my weekends doing this stuff by myself, but I think I can better spend my time building my business.

I have worked in over a down jobs in the last 15 years in the UK.

On the whole the experience was nasty, usually because of:

a. boredom 2. power-seeking co-workers/managers 3. rotten pay 4. useless managers 5. Being prevented from making decisions 6. Pettiness. 7. Stupid regulations

Have others found it quite as grim?

My husband and I are in our early twenties, i've been renting since the age of 16, and i think it's time to buy a house. We are going to be starting a family asap, and a one-bedroom apartment won't cut it for three people and pets.

Since i'm completely clueless as to how mortgage's work, what's the first step? Do we discuss this with our banks, have to save up at least 20 grand? Take out a loan? How does a mortgage work?

We're both looking to getting a house within the next year, does this sound reasonable? We both have full time jobs, I bartend, he works $13/hr. With our income do you think we have a chance of buying?

I feel as if i've wasted thousands of dollars from renting, which could have just gone into a new house.

I have to work every sat and sun and although it isn't the entire day, it still keeps me from being able to have any fun being that I get off at 10 or so. It seems like everyone has their weekends free but me. I work every weekend.

I've just had an offer accepted on a house in England, I want to move in ASAP so I don't have to keep paying rent on the flat I'm in at the moment but I'm the bottom of a chain. Can I ask the current owners of the house I've bought to move out so I can move in? Is that out of order?

There are people at work that sell these and make good extra income but I would like to offer something men can buy from as well. If you could suggest a catalog that has anything other than scented candles, frozen cookie dough, or very expensive candy I would be thankful. My thoughts are to offer something that will be in demand all year round and not too expensive (for example artwork, personal care products, or blank stationary to be used for birthdays, wedding anniversaries, or other special occasions). Also, I demand no investment required for my sales interest.

Hi all! :) I majored in journalism in collage, and worked about 10 years in print journalism (newspapers, mags, etc.) Now I'm really burned out and just don't enjoy it like I used to. I can't tolerate working even part-time for a newspaper group or magazine, so I'm strictly a freelancer. That way, I can do only the projects that interest/motivate me the most.

OK, enough background. The bottom line is, I can't make ends meet freelancing, so I'm taking a part-time job in a retail store as a customer service/sales associate. (NOT on commission; I'm not competitive enough for that). The store's merchandise is stuff that I love and the people are great!

However, I almost feel I demoted myself. Here I am with a journalism degree and 10 years of experience, suddenly working in retail. I've gone from having a "career", to having a "job". I'm excited, but also curious -- has anyone else basically DISSED their degree to do something completely different? If so, are you happy? :)
