My husband did some remodeling/ renovation work for a real estate Co in March. They haven't paid anything. What do we do? Legal solutions? But do we have to hire an attorney? The invoices total to several grand, but if we hire somebody we'll just pay all the money to the lawyer. Can we report them to any agency ( government)?
Thank you.

I'm 39 and a nurse. I don't have any children or anyone to leave this house to. Is there any point to such a big investment or should I have just stayed in a cheap apartment?

I went on an interview a week ago today. The interview went very well in my opinion, and the HR manager stated to me "Are you interested in the position, because we are interested in you for the position and think you will be a good fit". I then signed paper work for a background check.

Earlier this week, the HR Manager for the company I currently work for stated a "third party verifier" called asking for verification information, and that I was supposed to tell them to go through some website and use a code as per company policy. I know...sounds confusing, but it is a real policy. So, I called the company interviewing me to let them know how to get the background information from my current job, and I have not heard back from them, one way or the other. It has been a week, and I am wondering if they are having second thoughts about hiring me, or if the background check is taking longer than anticipated?

What do you guys think?

I'm helping a Family member buy a computer. They want a Mac... anyways whenever you buy a mac there is a big chance that you get a free iPod for free (4GB Nano usually) with mail in rebate. Well they couldn't care less for iPods and are willing to give it to me if I help them shop for the mac.

Well heres the problem I already have an iPod and really don't need another. What I want to do is sell it to get $ to help them pay for the computer or new software (like Microsoft office). The problem with that is:

1) I don't know where to sell it, NOT USING EBAY
2) You have to cut out the proof of purchase to recieve the rebate. In order to do that you have to take off the shrink wrap and it won't be considered New in box (someone may think that I tampered with it or something).

So is there a way to get the mail in rebate without cutting out the Bar code? (maybe scan it or something)

And where could I sell it for the best price (I'm willing to give up like 10% of the original price)?

I have heard that you as a consumer can negotiate with credit card companies to reduce interest rate so that you can get them paid off. How do I go about that?

Me and my husband just bought a house for 250K. I am in the military and he is a gov employee. This is a very high end house for what military people, more specifically the people I work with see people in my career field buying. This guy I work with makes me feel so stupid because he's a hater basically. We can afford the payments and I think it's a good investment for the future, and no we will not be moving away from this area for another 5-7 years at least but probably longer. How should I handle the negative reactions of people when they see how much money we have spent on our home. I know its really none of there business but sometimes the haters make me feel kind of dumb.

Isn't it all really the same? I only have a checking account. Do people normally put their money in savings accounts? I'm kind of confused. I guess it's because from my last question, people had around $200 in their checking account. It doesn't seem like a lot. So where do most people put their money? In savings or in checking accounts? Or in cash? Do most people put their money in a savings account? I thought people would have much more money than $200. What % of money does a checking account consist of compared to one's financial posession overall?

No need to freak out, okay? I'm slow and fat. I don't have computer experience and it's not like I'm going to hack into your account. Geeshh

I wrote a non-fiction book that will be published some time next year. Problem is, I plan to move to the Caribbean or South America to teach high school in September of next year. Do I need to be in North America to do radio interviews for North American stations? I could still be here every July & August.

My friend recently put an offer on a house. Her contract was turned down, and she was told that a better contract had been received. Turns out the better contract was from the listing agent herself! I know this isn't illegal, but does it violate some sort of realtor's code of ethics? Sort of seems like the equivalent of insider trading...
