Obviously there is no right or wrong answer to this question, interesting food for thought. I am going to throw out Marvel, I do not think they are that important. Maybe someone will argue with me.
All of the other four are important in their own way. I read somewhere, so it must be true, that McDonald's has employed more Americans at one time or another than any other private company (which excludes the US government). I agree that flipping hamburgers is not the best job in the world, but a huge portion of the American population came to learn from McDonald's that it is important to show up at 8:00, as opposed to 8:05, if your boss says so. McDonald's also taught millions who FICA is.
Microsoft is a hugely important part of the high-tech economy of the late 20th Century just as Ford was important in the manufacturing sector of the early 20th.
Disney exported American culture throughout the globe.

Ford has been around a while with the internal combustion engine. Nothing much has change other than styling. Hamburger is a hamburger, is a hamburger. Disney? after 5 visits, what more do you want. Marvel Comics...well. Now Microsoft made changes for billions of people world wide regardless of race, religion, age, sex, rich or poor or the form of government. The way we work, the way we play, communicate, the way we shop...the list goes on. If we look back 100 years from now, we may recognize this as another major technological break through for mankind.

A century is a long time now, compared to before. Technology has been advancing at an ever increasing rate for over three-hundred years. Now it is the 21st century.
Ford brought the "industrial revolution" with assembly line production, additional economies of scale etc. Very important as a building block for the 20th century.
Microsoft on the other hand was at the end of the 20th century and brought us the "information age" or revolution so to speak. Both companies critical to bring us to the point we are at now. Who is next?

I'd say each category revolutionsed their own respective fields....
But I think the most progressive is definitely Microsoft which is continuing to progress at a frighteningly rapid speed.....
I read a brill book about Bill Gates and Microsoft and how he thought the Internet would affect the World. This was in the early 1990's when the Internet was still taking baby footsteps.
Most of the things he predicted was spot on but even the omnipresent Bill Gates was unable to foresee it's grandeur and day to day revolution.

I was gonna say Microsoft even before looking at the options.
Microsoft definitely changed lots of things and advanced technology in quite a way. If it wasn't for microsoft we would be still using DOS (because linux, and mac are all copying microsoft windows a bit) or some cheap program that wouldnt really help alot and that would suck not alot of people would be using computers and the internet.

Don't know? Definitely not McDonald's and Marval Comics. Out of the list I would say Microsoft, just because they are advancing our society constantly. Almost everyone uses Microsoft for some reason.

Google...
Because it opened the Internet up. We are able to search for anything we want. We can look up news articles in China if we want to. You can look for price guides for antiques. You can read books. Look up pictures. Even type in your address and look at your house from a satellite picture.

you didn't mention General Electric. GE is one of the oldest corporations and they changed the way companies manage and how they do things.
