I went on an interview a week ago today. The interview went very well in my opinion, and the HR manager stated to me "Are you interested in the position, because we are interested in you for the position and think you will be a good fit". I then signed paper work for a background check.

Earlier this week, the HR Manager for the company I currently work for stated a "third party verifier" called asking for verification information, and that I was supposed to tell them to go through some website and use a code as per company policy. I know...sounds confusing, but it is a real policy. So, I called the company interviewing me to let them know how to get the background information from my current job, and I have not heard back from them, one way or the other. It has been a week, and I am wondering if they are having second thoughts about hiring me, or if the background check is taking longer than anticipated?

What do you guys think?

Background checks can take up to two-three weeks to complete, depending on the kind of job you've applied for. Don't get anxious, and wait a couple of weeks. After this, call the company that interviewed you to follow up on the application process. Try to talk to the person who interviewed you. Always remain positive and professional. Honestly, just because you agreed to a background check does not mean you got the job. The HR statement meant that you are a worthy candidate, and she/he wanted to know your intentions b4 they took the next step.

I suggest you call or email a a follow up letter, let them know you are still exciting about the position.

The delay could be the process of examining all the candidates to determine which they feel are a good fit. So, they can classify which ones deserves the next interview.

Call the Company and ask for the HR person who interviewed you and ask her/ him if you could be of any further assistance as to provining the background check info: like you did regarding that web site password. And the - by the way - you can find out where you stand.

Give them at least two weeks to run a background check. It often takes time and be sure to call at some point to make sure that they don't need further information. If something that was a deal breaker came up, someone will let you know.

it's probably taking longer than expected.

don't forget that even if you're #1 on their list, they still have to backround check #2, #3, #4, etc. just in case you don't take the job even though you already said you would cause they have to keep their butts covered for "just in case". All companies do this.

If you're wondering, it is okay to call and ask them if they got the information they wanted without too much trouble. You can even ask the status of the decision.

Try calling back to the company you interviewed with and appologize for the hoops they have to jump through ask them if there is anything else they need from you.

It shows that you understand the value of their time and that are willing to take the initiative.

Give them a call and inquire as to whether the position has been filled yet. At the very least, your call will be a reinforcement that you are very interested in the position. Good luck.

Don't worry, the background check is just taking time....but it is always a good idea to call up the company and check on the progress of your case...

It doesn't hurt to call and follow up. I think it is really professional to send a e mail to follow up the interview. Thank them for their time and let them know that you are intrested in the position. That always goes over really well at my work

Usually they will contact a reference or 2 as well, if they have not give the potential new employer a call to check your status.
