Recently, My husband and I received a job offer in the Bay Area. We will have to relocate and want the safest, yet a cheaper cost of living. Any suggestions as to which outlying area would be best?

Thinking Asheville or Charlotte...Taking into consideration job market, housing prices, cost of living, etc. We are in our late 20s. Thoughts on these areas? Thanks!

My grandmother had shares bought for her in her name in the early 1900's for Owl Oil. She wanted to find out more about them, but passed away before she could. My mother just came across them recently & wants to know if they are worth anything. We are all quite naive & new to this(stocks, bonds, shares, etc...). Can anyone tell us where to look, who to contact or ANYTHING, on how to find out if they are worth anything or pretty much just junk now? There isn't enough info on the shares themselves to really find out from them.

I have been working at a non-profit in Washington, DC for two years and am looking for a new job starting right after Thanksgiving. I'm also wondering how much a Development Associate normally gets paid as I've been an AmeriCorps*VISTA with a very small salary ($10K) for these two years. I have experience in databases, event planning, and managing volunteers.

My boss is abusive. HE yells and goes on rampages. He scares his employees to death. Yet he keeps getting promotions and no one admonishes him for his tirades.

Once I tried to leave work one minute early and he flipped out and made me go back to my office until 6pm on the nose.

I am a new lawyer working at a large Phoenix firm. My boss is one of the partners. I don't want to make waves because the legal community is very reputation oriented and I don't want to get a bad rep when I am trying to develop my career. All of the other partners are well aware of his behavior.

He also times employees when they take bathroom breaks.

He yells at employees for writing in the wrong color pen (when it really doesn't matter).

He treats the female attorneys like secretaries.

Our mail man either put the checks in the wrong box and someone cashed them, or someone got into our mailbox and took the mail. The people then took the checks to a liquor store, where the store did not require ID to cash them. We have a detective trying to find the culprits, but even if he finds out who did it, will not get us our money back. The banks will not re-issue the checks (it's not their problem), the mail man has put neighbors mail in our box recently, and the detective ignorantly can not find the store where the checks were cashed, even though he has the cancelled checks with account numbers stamped on them for all companies involved. Who do we need to be hounding about getting our money? Post office, Liquor store that cashed them, the company who issued the checks and let them get their money back when it's all figured out. I have many bills to pay, compared to the banks/issuing companies unlimited cash resources.

my dad purposely gave circuit city the wrong phone number (apparently he thought that they'd give it away and we'd get tons of spam calls). is this bad? what we ordered is coming through fedex, will it affect its arrival?
