My mom is not working and needs health coverage. I have a good job and want to put her on mine. Is this possible?

It all depends on the coverage you have available from your work. I did work one place where I could add my parents to my insurance if they were dependent on me for support. Everywhere else I worked, I could not add them.

Check with your HR department or read the eligibility rules they probably provided (all be it buried deep inside a bunch of other stuff)

There are a lot of variables included in your situation like
mom's age
dad's age
medical conditions for each of them incl. ht/wght and past events
cost factors.

You really will get your best serice from a licensed health insurance agent near you. This is probably too complicated to try to deal with via Internet inquiries. Find an agent by asking around rather than using yellow pages or the Internet - you want one that others will recommend as honest and competent.

If you want to check the specific advice you get, come on back to this site and tell us what you were told by an agent. We can give you some common sense advice.

Best wishes.

Generally, you can only have partners and dependents on your insurance plan, but the only way to find out for sure is to talk with your human resources department or the insurance company directly. If you don’t trust either one, you can contact you state insurance department and ask them (link below). If your mom is in good health, she might be able to get affordable health coverage in the private market. If she is in poor health, you might want to see if your state has a high-risk insurance pool (link below). Needy Meds has discount drug programs and assistance for specific conditions. Another option, as a previous answerer noted, is to talk with locally licensed health insurance agents. Try MostChoice.com. It offers free quotes on local health plans, but it is built on connecting local agents with people actively looking for health insurance. There is no cost or obligation. Just tell the agents what you want and what you want to spend and let them do the legwork.

You can find MostChoice here: http://www.mostchoice.com/health-insurance.cfm

It does seem wrong that we can’t put others on our health plans, even if we have to pay extra for it…

If you want to be responsible for the premiums, sure. Talk to an agent about different company policy's.

NO. No chance unless you own the company and put her on the payroll.
