Theater & Acting - September 2007

[Selected]: All categories Arts & Humanities Theater & Acting

It usually begins in the hour leading up to an audition. My stomach begins to feel queasy, my legs go weak, and my heart starts racing. Sometimes I consider canceling the audition. Outwardly I can maintain a facade of confidence and calmness, but inside it's a different story! Strangely, once an audition or callback
gets underway, I start to relax and open up, and realize it isn't so bad after all. Still, I'd really like to conquer those waiting room fears. Advice from other actors on how they cope with nerves would be really appreciated!

Hi guys,
Here's the deal I'm in a community theater production of Snowwhite and the Seven Dwarfs and we open next week and go through till October somthing but the problem is that one of the days where we're doing three show, 10:30, 1:00, and 3:00, is also the day of my HOMECOMING DANCE! The shows about three hours long including intermisson so I've execpted the fact that I'm gonna have to mostly get ready at the theater if I want to be home when my date comes to picks me up. Some of my gal pals in the cast said they would do my hair for me but my make up is the problem. I'm the Walking Talking Magic Mirror so I'm gonna have lot's of heavy goffy make up that I'm gonna need to take of right after curtin call so I can put on my dance make up. Dose anyone know somthing that is
a) a portable make up remove (like wipes in a contaner)
b) can do a through but fast job on heavy make up
c) is gentle enough to use on someone with sensitive skin!

Thank You

i'm 13, and i've been told I'm a really good actress.
Ilive in missouri, so obviously there's not many acting opportunities.
I'd love to audition for things, but I cant just move out to california or anything.
so please, if anyone knows of anything, tell me please!

my parents and i made a deal. if i get 85% and above on all of my tests and etc. i'll be able to do my community theater musical! but just recently i got an 80% on my math test and a 63% on my reading test. i got 100's on 2 other reading quizzes but i forgot them in my locker. how do i explain my math and reading grade to my mom? i'd rather get it over with and tell her though. my choices are: 1) call her at work, there's no way she can yell at me on the phone when her boss is there
2) e-mail her about it, she's usually a lot nicer on e-mail BUT she'll probably put "we need to talk about this when i get home." at the end.
3) tell her when she gets home--but then she'll yell at me and ground me the auditions and tv. and computer and phone and just plain hate me (she was in a really bad mood this week cause she got into a fight with my older brother and 2 older sisters.) yeah, i know. it was all my fault i should've studied more but i read the book twice! please give me a good idea!

I have been offered an audition on a very basic theatre course, which lasts a year, and I am really pleased. I have to audition with a 2-3 minute monologue from a published play. The only problem is that I have no experience of this at all- my experience of theatre, which got me through to the audition stage, is in a completely different aspect. I'm not scared of auditioning, and I'll do the best I can, but I don't know where to start as far as choosing and approaching it is concerned. I am a 38 year old woman, in case these things have to be age and gender appropriate!
Thank you in advance

I am about to audition for Oliver and I think I'd like to try out for Bet.

Can anyone tell me what songs she sings in and how much

And, does she have any lines?

I am talking about in the stage musical, not the movie.

Thanks!!!!!

What is a term one might use to say that you have been accepted into the cast and crew of a play? You've auditioned, and it happens you have been recruited... What is the correct term for this kind of situation? Thank you!!

Gabriella... oh Gabriella
Are you all right my dear?
I am so sorry you got hurt. It is all my fault.
I was running, not for the purpose of getting away from that terrifying Grizzly, but rather to draw the bear to me, and protect you.
But you see... I love you
And I cannot stand the thought of you getting hurt.
Yes, I know it may not seem like that, but it is true.
Its just that... my first love will always be the adventure, the great hike, the hunt.
(long dramatic pause)
I must leave you
To Europe on an great expedition of my very own
But... I will return to you one day
And we will live happily ever after, with all the money, food, and love we’ll ever need and more
(sigh)
I hate to leave you... like this!, but I believe in destiny
And knowing you, you will be up on your feet in no time
We will link again someday
Farewell
