Theater & Acting - August 2007

[Selected]: All categories Arts & Humanities Theater & Acting

I'm a junior in high school, and i never knew what i wanted to be when i grow up. Just last month, i got interested in being an actor. I don't have any acting experience, but i do have some performing experience. Is it hard to be an actor? How does the scripts work? Do you memorize it all or is it broken down into parts? How long is an actor given to memorize their script? Just give me what you know about acting. Thanks in advance.

I don't want to famous, as everyone else wants to be here. i love doing it and i dont care if the spotlight is not on me.But my parents dont know how passionate i am, and they will not get me voice, dance or acting lessons. so all i am relying on is High school choir, drama, dance and when i go to college. at points i feel that if you need to make it on broadway, you have to be super talented and you are "born with it" according to my parents.is this right? I know i need lessons, and i have already been in musical productions....but can i make it to broadway?? i dont care if i work two jobs, unless i make there.

i would apreciate any advice, and thank you for reading this post.

I went to a concert for the first time since I was 9 last night, and was really intrigued by the lighting. I am the tech director in my highschool's drama club, so I recognized most of the lights used as PARs, but they were using another type of light that I did not recognize. They were hanging, moving lights that shot out focused beams. There were also some on the floor of the stage that had less focused beams. I don't think that they are really used in theatre lighting, probably just in concerts. I was just wondering if anyone knew what these were called. I'm a complete techie, and I like to know as much as possible.
Thanks!

I was thinking of buying my parents tickets to go see Spelling Bee, but I keep getting side orchestra seats on Telecharge, as I expected I would (I'm looking at tickets for a show only a week away). But, are the side orchestra, such as row F seats 102 and such still worth the money I'll pay?

You could also add any "non-trusted" agencies.

Im a 21 year old college student, Im a Film & Television and Political Science major and I've recently been bitten by the theater bug. I just wanted to know if Im way too old to try to do theater. Im also a sucker for musicals, would voice, singing, and/ or dancing lessons be useless on account of my age. And if not, where do I start? Please give me feedback, Im completely serious about this. Thanks.

Now, when I say this, I'm not saying it like, "OMG I WANT 2 B3 ON DIISN3Y CHANN3L!!1!!!!!" I simply want to take up acting as a hobby. They do have productions in my school, but they're musicals, and I'm not very good at singing and I'm stiff when it comes to dancing. I have been told I have potential and it seems like so much fun!

Does anyone know how I can get into some plays and stuff? Once again, I am a young person who's looking to act for fun. I'm not really looking to pursue it as a career or be famous or anything.

Why is it that a lot of people who want to make it big in Hollywood end up doing softcore flicks? It seems like being in one of those movies would be career suicide for anyone that wants to ever be taken seriously in the industry. Do people who get involved in these films generally do it bc they think it will help their career? What do you think? Do you think people sell their souls just to get payed? Why do people do softcore instead of hardcore if they don't mind getting nude in front of the camera?

Firstly I think I have a natural nack at being a good actor to certain emotions. Basically anything besides crying, I can be sad, but I cant make myself cry.

I am 20, joining the Marines for 4 years, and after that I want to become an actor. I am wondering if there is any chance I can hit it big by the time I am 26, or get a nice part in a movie??

Also my face is asymmetrical, noone usually notices except me so it's not that bad, but I notice it in pictures. Should I get that surgery where they add a bit of bone to one side of my jaw?? That is what I would need to fix it, but not sure if it's that important.

The type of role I would want to play is being a badass or something, or a serious type role.

I have a natural aura and energy about me so I think I can get somewhere if I just knew the right people....

sorry for the rant haha...
