I don't want to famous, as everyone else wants to be here. i love doing it and i dont care if the spotlight is not on me.But my parents dont know how passionate i am, and they will not get me voice, dance or acting lessons. so all i am relying on is High school choir, drama, dance and when i go to college. at points i feel that if you need to make it on broadway, you have to be super talented and you are "born with it" according to my parents.is this right? I know i need lessons, and i have already been in musical productions....but can i make it to broadway?? i dont care if i work two jobs, unless i make there.

i would apreciate any advice, and thank you for reading this post.

You're in it for the right reasons, as far as I can tell, and that already gives you an advantage above the people that just want in it for the fame. I'm very happy to have found someone on here with a definite goal and a realistic idea of reaching it.

Very, very, very few people are just "born with it" -- almost all of the actors you hear about on Broadway have trained very hard to get where they are. Persistence is the key, as is holding on to your dream no matter what -- while you still have the benefit of being in classes, even if it's just high school or college, take the (hopefully constructive) criticism you get from teachers and classmates and use it to your advantage because an actor can never be at a point where s/he no longer needs to learn from others. Also, try to aim for a college in NY that is known for its Broadway alumni, or, if that's not viable for you, try for a college in your area that's well-known for its performing arts programs.

Good luck -- it's not going to be easy, but I think you've got the right attitude for success.

Some people can make it far without any kind of training, but most people have to work at it. Take advantage of the opportunities you do have and make the best of them. You're lucky that you have choir, drama, and dance at your school - I grew up in a small town with none of those. Extra lessons will never go to waste - is there anyway you could get a part-time job and pay for your own lessons? I went to university to train for theatre and what I learned is while the classes were helpful, lots of people come into their own by getting involved in every production they could on the side and using what they learned there.

You are smart. You are the type who knows what's what. You'll do well at anything you do. You're "born with it" to an extent. But you do need to train. What you're doing is just fine for now. You can take whatever classes you want later. And broadway is not the only place to be on stage. There are smaller lower paying and no paying places to perform. If performing is your passion (and it sounds like it is) you can do it. I'd bet you do it.

yeah, right! High School and college is not going to help unless you are good enough and rich enough to go to the top schools for acting like, Julliard, Yale, and Purchase College.
Broadway acting is the most difficult of all careers, harder thatn movie acting, harder than becoming an astronaught, not because acting is hard, it is not, but because there are so few jobs and so many actors. Your parents are right, you have to be super talented and born with it. So read my profile and if you have more questions write me at my aol address, Doc
