I'd really like to be an actress but my only problem is - i dont have the confidence to stand in front of more than 200 people (which seems like alot but its not really when you are out there and watching every persons face its not that many people) and now I'm older i just think that i should have confidence but no mater what age you are you cant just get confidence like that - i have been in many plays and preformances - but it doesnt help my confidence. Since i was little i have always wanted to be an actress and and the dream of actually becoming an actress is so overwhelming i just can't imagine anything like that happening to me but its that dream that keeps me going - i really want to be an actress PLEASE can you help that dream come true please contact me on rachael_marsh@hotmail.com and help me get soem confidence in myself thank you xx

I'm a science (not arts) graduate and have a lot of project management experience, and have always wanted to be involved in tv, film or theatre production/directon, but never really knew how to about it - - I'm now in my late thirties and have the chance for a career change....if its feasable !. Can anyone give me any advice as to what kind of studies or work might lead to this, or point me at some good places to get info ?

We saw a theater production last night. It was a touring Broadway production. The female lead was one of my husband's friends from high school. I've always kind of wondered, but now am really curious- how do Broadway and touring production stars get paid?

Are they on salary? Payment per performance? What about rehearsal time? What happens if an understudy steps in becuase of sickness? Is the understudy paid more for their performance as the lead (for example) than if they were in the ensemble as they normally were?

As a Jamaican, I love the theatre, pantomine and the arts of all kinds and often wonder why more African Americans do not attend. I attended the theatre in Historic Sanford which is a predominately black area (Oklahoma was the play) and was surprised there was only one other black family present in the crowd. What effect does this have on how African Americans are viewed by white America?

I love Wicked, it's the best thing I've ever seen. Although I doubt it would be as good as a movie than as a play. How long do you think it woud be until it turned into a movie?

Does anyone else out there have a parent like mine?
My dad says that Theater isn't really a profession. He believes that a profession is a 9-5 job where you work your butt off to get a couple hundred dollars an hour.
He just assumes that if I go into Theater I want to be on the big screen. But lo and behold I DON'T! I don't need all that publicity. I just want to act! If I get to make a living off of it to... cool! But it isn't needed. He said to me earlier concerning an article talking about theater students and getting jobs right out of college, "Is that a real job? or just the local theater?"
Am I alone?
