I am very interested in performing arts, I would like to adudition to be in a theatre house or something. I am not sure how it works though, does anyone know? I should mention, I do not want to have to joins some college and take courses just to be in a play. There should be some kind of public theatres right? Please help I am in Minnesota, southern suburbs.

A huge part of my problem is I can't find any! I look up Minnesota theatre, or community theatre and I can not find anything that is a regular playhouse that has regular shows. I can find the guthrie, or the state theatre, but nothing like what I am looking for.

Oh don't get me wrong there is nothing wrong with getting an education in it, I just can not right now, no money. I wanted to see if I could start out just as I am and see if I am good enough for now, education is a little down the road.

OK kiddo here you go... below are two links to Minnesota community theatres that give you web pages of individual theatres so you can find their audition information. I suggest bookmarking the ones in your area then visit them (see a show even) and talk with the artistic directors about getting involved. Enjoy!

Sadly if geography blocks you, and you are unable to travel for what is a pittance, or gratis, then you may have to relocate.
You did answer your own question in part however. "Audition"
Certainly it never hurts to also have actual ability.
I have a Q too. What possible wrong is there in going to any place of education, just for the sake of it, and while there, getting involved in any theater arts programs? While I'll admit some "natural" STUFF makes up an actor, or technician, there is never enough one can learn about any craft.

Call the Guthrie Theater and ask them for the names, addresses and telephone numbers of the Community Theaters in or near where you live. Right, there should be some public theater.

Theaters routinely announce auditions for parts in their upcoming productions. Many theaters maintain web sites, which announce auditions. Or, you can attend a performance at your local theater, and ask one of the staffers how to be put on the list for audition announcements. In addition to stage roles, theaters need production people to deal with sets, props, costume, box office, backstage work, publicity, and on and on; the possiblilites are legion.

There is an association for community theaters in the United States. I believe the acronym is AACT (American Association of Community Theaters?). Try looking that up on the web and they should have a listing of community theaters in your region.

Get your city's newspapers look into the Arts section, go into your city's phonebook and look up different theatre companies in your town, I guarantee they'll have some in Minnesota....look for when they will begin auditioning for new shows and begin to prepare....GOOD LUCK!

try publications such as playbill online or backstage. look up your local theatres and even drop by and ask when they are holding auditions next. you can even subscribe to their email lists which will let you know about future auditions.
