Can you name the poets who gave up these memorable lines? And, better still, can you give us the titles that any of these lines came from?

(Some will be easy. Others not so. And have fun!)

After the first death there is no other.

Listen: there’s a hell of a good universe next door. Let's go!

I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

Time does not bring relief; you have all lied
who told me time would ease me of my pain!

Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

I, too, sing America.

There you met it - the mystery of hatred.

Unreal City,
Under the brown fog of a winter dawn –

She did not die.
They buried a waxworks doll.
Sylvia Plath is alive in Argentina!

Sometime during eternity some guys show up
and one of them who shows up real late
is some kind of carpenter
from some square-type place like Galilee.

A waste of breath the years behind
In balance with this life, this death.

my eyes are big red tomatoes

and my nose is a facuet.

my heart hurts like a stubbed toe,

i just want to be with you.

today was a pitfall,

worse than i thought,

but the end came and i saw myself not smiling.

i am misunderstood,

miss represented,

unhappy.

do not leave me to be alone,

i would have nothing to live for.

You just sit there, staring into space
Oblivious to everyone and everything,
People just ignore you and walk further away.
Watching squirrels play and the birds sing.

You're wondering about anything, religion, life
Why you even bothered to wake up this morning,
Ending your blissfull dreams of peace and hope,
Of mermaids swimming, and dragons soaring.

Every day, you sit there in the same place,
Thinking about your family and dreams,
How your parents divorce is killing you inside,
Nobody but you can hear all your screams.

One lie turns into another, getting bigger and bigger
You unfortuneatly learned this the hard way
Creating wounds that will eventually fade to scars,
But sadly, they won't ever, ever go away.

You're confused in this huge, horrid world of ours
Seeing nothing but tears and blood, and feeling pain.
You hear babies crying, mothers screaming at fathers
And many other kids crying outside in

I have to present a poem for speech tournament prep on Friday. I don't have a freaking poem. It has to be 5-7 minutes, including an introduction which sets the mood and tells the title and author. It has to be from a published source. It has to tell a story and have a beginning, middle, and end. I remember my friend Cooper did one that was like David Talamante or something. Does anyone know that? Or anything? Please, help me out here.

Some Very Bad Advice

Of old there was a saying said
to sooth dark failure’s pain,
If at first you don’t succeed
you should try and try again.

Full many a failure now lies behind,
beneath oblivion’s cloak,
whoever said that stupid saw,
I hope upon it choked.

If at first you stumble and fall,
lie still and fake a cramp.
If all your plans should come to naught,
you can be a perfect tramp.

When failure breaks your heart and mind
shut up and quit that cryin’
What failures could be greater than
old William Jennings Bryan?

When preaching makes you feel unworthy
you can always punch the preacher,
And if your schoolwork is very poor
you can always be a teacher,

When you feel that no one cares
try skipping a month of rent!
If someone makes you feel you’re poor,
cram up his nose a cent.

So if at first you don’t succeed
arsenic won’t solve a thing,
Cause even failures can do well;
Bob Dylan can’t even sing.

Disasterous Effect

Standing in crystal clear motion
blue as sky and yellow sun potion
keeps them moving along the walk
simply looking around for girls to talk

Not wanting to push the numbers fast
or else the chance of peace will not last
one in a thousand I move to advance
trying to see if fate shall give me this chance

Satisfaction as the digits burn in satellite
thinking that this day, paths will lead to delight
pride bursting to druglike designs in self
thinking to build it up with even more wealth

Thinking the day won, the initator smiles
not understanding the potential for wiles
waiting some days later for great feasts
while they all only know how to fear beasts

Emit waves to the sky for the payload
not know what waits is for the way-low
machine noises and silence are the reward
for those that get caught, they don't go forward

In the search for love
I became hated
In the search of happiness
I found sadness
In the search of life
Death came so close
When I realized it
It was late
When I thought about it
I was scared
Fear cripples the soul
The dices were against me
Defeated indeed
Hide, is what thy shall do
Blinded was I
Thinking that thorns had roses
The truth is that
The rose had thorns

For my english class, I need to select a poem to present to the class. It needs to have a plethora of various literary elements and preferably several meanings beyond the surface one.

I want to do Robert Frost- Fire and Ice

What other poems would you reccomend that are not as cliched, but nonetheless excellent literary feats

Thank

I know a man named Mr. Bean
His limericks make me feel so clean
I like to read them in the tub
And fantasize he's there to rub
My brain and thoughts with words of wit
But then I get my 'puter wet
I curse and cry but have retribution
I didn't die from electricution
Oh how I love my Mr. Bean
His top and bottom and in between.

While sitting on a plain flying from back to LA from Texas on Labor Day?

I used to write poetry, some of which has been published, but that was years ago. And it tended to deal with complex images and word usage, wiith current events and irony, injustice and moral issues. This silly little poem is simplistic by those standards and hardly profound. But I thought some of you might enjoy it.

Roadmap To The Soul

A thousand miles
from the ones I love;
two thousand miles
from one who loves me ----

Too late we learn
that distance measured
by steps is not
nearly as far
as the distance
measured by our heart.

(It's okay to pick on this little poem if you want. I'm out of practise writing poetry anyway and am slowly becomming a romantic old cogger.)

It was many and many a year ago,
In a kingdom by the sea,
That a maiden there lived whom you may know
By the name of Annabel Lee;
And this maiden she lived with no other thought
Than to love and be loved by me.

I was a child and she was a child,
In this kingdom by the sea;
But we loved with a love that was more than love -
I and my Annabel Lee;
With a love that the winged seraphs of heaven
Coveted her and me.
And this was the reason that, long ago,
In this kingdom by the sea,
A wind blew out of a cloud, chilling
My beautiful Annabel Lee;
So that her highborn kinsman came
And bore her away from me,
To shut her up in a sepulcher
In this kingdom by the sea.
The angels, not half so happy in heaven,
Went envying her and me
Yes! that was the reason
(as all men know, In this kingdom by the sea)
That the wind came out of the cloud by night,
Chilling and killing my Annabel Lee.

But our love was stronger by far than the love
Of those who were older than we
Of many far wiser than we
And neither the angels in heaven above,
Nor the demons down under the sea,
Can ever dissever my soul from the soul
Of the beautiful Annabel Lee.
For the moon never beams without bringing me dreams
Of the beautiful Annabel Lee;
And the stars never rise but I feel the bright eyes
Of the beautiful Annabel Lee;
And so, all the night-tide, I lie down by the side
Of my darling, my darling, my life and my bride,
In the sepulcher there by the sea,
In her tomb by the sounding sea.

You sleep on a bed made of angels' wings
And you pity the frailty of all living things
You make black into night and swear you were right
Well I guess you know best you must you just cannot lie
You flirt with the idea of breaking a home
And then you call upon me when your heart gets broke
so then I pick you up from the ground once again
just to have you disrespect me in front of my friends
But when you walk out I still know you'll be back
And I'll be here waiting to pick up the slack
Cuz I know deep inside there's some feelings you hide
You don't wanna admit it but I see it in your eyes
So don't tell me you never wanna see me again
We both know it's a lie you'll be back before you left
And when you start acting your age then you'll see
It wasn't patience and love that made me do all these things
See I am mature and you're just like a child
and I hope when you grow up I don't get bored and tired
and have to trade you in for someone who's more wild
so just please stay stupid for a while

Tears revolve around our eyes
As planets do the Sun
Nothing in Nature does not cry -
Gravity relinquishes None

Trouble not your Heart so much when
Asteroids hit the floor -
In Life 'tis always Mystery
- One fundamental law

Wings which now can Elevate
Once functioned to trap heat -
The Origin of Tears could be
- To cool Soul's made to weep -

Silent dawn ,sultry shine ,living love ghastly crime,
Justify ones actions , I shant see the light
For what I do is my own plight
Upon this vessel we take our flight
To lit upon an oak tree in the dead of the night

I am in love with my own self
And I feel less remorse
To look upon a self mastery a task within a task
To prey upon dark emotions that range within this heart
I am only human ,I burn away in peace
The words of wisdom vanish ,
The lights go out
Waters filling deep
There’s no way out

Sultry dawn have u seen me sigh
Look out at the clear sunshine
I see the time is now the time is ripe to flow
call the mindseye doctor

those words of wisdom vanish
the lights they go out
that waters filling deep
there’s never a way out
