Those words make part of world culture and great literature works, so why can't they be expressed on the yahoo answers poetry section? is it good or bad?

It is impossible to quote literary works that contain certain words because they are systematically censored here, which I think is a pity (it happened to me as I was quoting a poem by Derek Walcott). I don't think words should be censored systematically.

YA is not the end all of great literature, but it is a place to share ideas and ask questions of an audience that goes from the young to the very old. This being the case, two things must be considered:

1. The very young are exposed to enough "adult" material in the course of a day...do we really need to add another forum to jade younger minds? It is one thing for them to hear certain words during the course of a day, it is another to hear them given in any respectful forum that might lend any degree of vernacular pedigree.

2. If you open the box to the profane, you'll find that the youngest will use it to excess simply because they're allowed to do so. Personally, I don't need to hear some teenager string together a litany of garbage and do so under the clause of "free speech"...passing it off as "artistic expression"

If you have a poem you want to cite that is not allowed on YA, simply supply a link to it. So, I believe it is "good" to put some boundaries in a forum open to such a wide audience.

There is a level of modesty required because words have different connotations, some very offensive even if they make the world of culture. Think about using those in a sentence when talking to your mom , dad or child. If they ain't fit you use euphemisms. That's why Y/A is cautious about them.

Have a modest day.

Not that I'm a Ginsberg (sp?) fan or anything, but he'd get booted on day 1. My logic is that if a word is the best one to use in any situation, the writer should use that particular word. Y!Answers doesn't give a monkey's left testicle (medical terminology only here lol) about literature or talent. Having said that, ONLY use such words as a last resort -- it does tend to show a lack of imagination and vocabulary.

It's a matter of legalities for one thing. Contributing to the delinquency of minors is a serios offense, and since yahoo doesn't make the laws, they can only abide by them.

Since the site is for ages 13 and up, I think it's the least you can do to compromise.

Some people like me are offended by cursing AND counterfeit cussing. It has no purpose, but to offend. It teaches nothing, but ill manners.

all those words you said, which I'm not sure what they are (but I'm really curious what that long one is) are necessary because without them part of a piece of art is lost

That's what I don't like about YA, but they havve reasons beause some minor are using YA, that's ehy they don't "allow" it- we can use euphemisms anyways.
