Have you ever felt like arguing with someone over something so trivial it's not worth it or just because of plain boredom?
No stupid answers please.

I guess I need to clarify my previous question. I'm wondering more about the "organized" part of religion. Something more like this:

Should we work ourselves around a specific religion, or would that be ignorant? Is it not better to maybe grow up practicing a certain religion, and then to question it? In the end, we either find a religion that is more believeable, or are drawn closer to our original beliefs. How do we choose and truly believe "x" religion if we never question? In order for the belief to be true, isn't self-love and understanding a prerequisite?
Moreover, doesn't everyone have different beliefs? Some people believe in God, some people don't. Some people believe in Jesus, others follow Buddah. Then you get into a few of the complexities of teachings, and how each ought to be worshiped. But... is that it? Why do we draw the line on subdivisions there? Once that line is drawn, we're oppressed by the religious sophists and, whether one likes it or not, a damper is placed upon their spirituality.
In the sermon today, our priest stressed "the church vs passions". He said that in order for us to follow the lord, we have to be accountable. This is why the church tells us to fast on "x" day, and we should follow- irregardless of what we think.
But isn't that the greatest paradox of all? Apparently, there's no room for interpretation. When, to me, that's all religion is.

I am a spiritual person, and believe in many concepts of the Orthodox faith. But I'm starting to question ORGANIZED religion. Any thoughts?

Hi guys, but what does the New World in the New world Translation stand for?

As it was written in the 1950's, the idea of settling and colonising America as the new free world must have been a little bit out of date.

However, the new world order, the plan for one reliogeon, one economy, one spiritual leader, and one world president was well under way

with establishements such as the council of foreign relations, the tri lateral commsion

and many pugnacious intellectual heavyweights such as ALlbert Einstein saying the future of mankind lies in World Government.

This is of course a contradiction to the prophecies written in the book of revelations which says that the furture will be a time of great turmoil and tribulation caused by the leaders of this one world government

anyway, in case none of this applies I just want to know What JW's make of the phrase New world trnaslation, and what is the New world the translators were reffering to, if it's not about the New World order?

What love means to us is how we define love, and how the ones we love define love. "True love" is a state of mind, which comes and goes in people. The concept of "true love" is a shelter for those people who believe that without love, there would be no point to life, no hope, no God, no anything. That life could just exist, going forward contrary to these principals. It is obvious that love means many different things to different people and that to each it holds a different value

As related to Y!A.

I typically give a question a star if it made me think beyond a simple yes or no. I guess interesting to me, as related to this question, means thought-provoking.

I see a great number of questions that I give stars to that others don't, even though they have delivered a long, detailed answer.

Let me try to set this up correctly. Stay with me...

When someone speaks, how do you process what they have said? If someone, for example, says the word "chair" to you, do you see a chair in your "mind" or do you see the word "chair?"

Recently I read an interview with Brian Swimme, a mathematical cosmologist in which he mocked the "mechanistic model of the 19th century". I question such mockery.

To call phenomena so reliably associated in sequential time that there are no known, verifiable exceptions anything but cause and effect is to pervert conventional rules of naming.

An explicit inclusive description of man would include the nerves, their form, chemistry, activity. It would include their exquisite and elegant intricacy, and an organization so marvelous as to appear miraculous.

But it is at this level of understanding that the term “miraculous” is shown to be less accurate than “mechanical”! Given its properties, the neuron must do what it does. Even self awareness is actually the subjective awareness of neuronal activity. Awareness may occur without consciousness of the self/ego/soul/identity, but neither occurs without that "mechanical" neural activity, ergo mechanics, not miracles.
