A guy gets married, and he and his wife go to Hawaii. He is set on starting a family ASAP. Out of nowhere, a cocunut falls in his lap, crushing the pelvic area.

Is it "fate/chance's" fault for being that cruel or his fault for not being aware and protecting himself?

Was it meant to be? Is adoption an option?

"I think therefore I am" sound pretty logical, but are you comfortable with this? Sure I can only be certain of my own consciousness and sure of nothing else, but I don't feel whole with this statement. "To be is to be perceived" sounds more human. I can think and realize that I must exist since something has to do the thinking, but if no one acknowledges my existence, then I am but a mere ghost in a world in which I want to be influential and a force of change. Does anyone else feel this way?

"Some help others in order to receive blessings and admiration. This is simply meaningless. Some cultivate themselves in part to serve others, in part to serve their own pride. They will understand, at best, half of the truth. But those who improve themselves for the sake of the world -- to these, the whole truth of the universe will be revealed."
--Lao Tzu (c.604-531 B.C.)

I love your verses with all my heart, dear Miss Barrett, -- and this is no off-hand complimentary letter that I shall write, --whatever else, no prompt matter-of-course recognition of your genius and there a graceful and natural end of the thing: since the day last week when I first read your poems, I quite laugh to remember how I have been turning again in my mind what I should be able to tell you of their effect upon me -- for in the first flush of delight I though I would this once get out of my habit of purely passive enjoyment, when I do really enjoy, and thoroughly justify my admiration -- perhaps even, as a loyal fellow-craftsman should, try and find fault and do you some little good to be proud of herafter! -- but nothing comes of it all -- so into me has it gone, and part of me has it become, this great living poetry of yours, not a flower of which but took root and grew ...

It's fun to get the nonsense and the quality responses. Some people just have to have something to say. It's funny. Try a bunch it's fun. I asked this question in P&S, let's see what happens if I put it in Philosophy.

Consider this:
"You affect the world by what you browse."
-- Tim Berners-Lee, English Inventor of the World Wide Web

Is this so? If it is, how are you affecting our world?
Is this NOT so? Then why not?

My Sims 2 game got me thinking.

Although they are just virtual characters, do you think they are real in a way? Not real like you and me, but do you think they can "feel" and "think" , etc?

When you delete Sims or Neighborhoods do you think they are just GONE or do they go into some inaccessible computer file or something?

Is it possible our actions are controlled just like the Sims' actions?

Does god see us like we see the Sims characters?

The Sims game does seem rather pointless because there is not much for them to accomplish, and their lives are limited. Is real life the same way too?

Thank you for thinking about my simolosophical questions. :)

What do we absolutely, one hundred percent know? Something that cannot be questioned, or argued.

Examples of wrong answers: 1. We know nothing. (That's self-contridicting because that would mean we know something.)
2. We are self-aware. (We can't prove that others are self-aware. This could all be a dream. We don't know if everyone else around us is self-aware or if it's just us because we can only prove to ourselves that we are self-aware)

At first I thought I would instantly want to be able to see, but I thought of something that changed that. If you were blind, lust would disappear from your mind. As we all know, lust is up there with the most influentual things on mankind. If you were blind, you would become more wise, make better choices, and be more just.

As of now, I'm 50-50. Both ways have their pros and cons.

My Question is does all this new found code not just in the bible but in other great books such as moby dick for example mean what i think it means that if we are now just scratching the surface of computers and thru them finding very accurate code, does that mean that we are in some kind of program. For are not programs made up of code. So now if we are in a program can we change the program. It has been said that if you went back in time and tried to change something like say assasinate hitler, that even if you had him in your sights and was a sharp shooter your gun would not fire and that in fact you couldn't change history. So why is that I'll tell you why cause we are living in a program one that can't be changed. But with the coming together of all it just may be able to be altered just a little bit enough to give us all a fighting chance and to let us write the program a new. I say this because according to bible code we don't have much time left. So can man make a stand can he

Glad your dog can't talk? What has your dog seen you do and you're glad he's not able to tell anyone? One evening I was in a silly mood while watching a baseball game and every time my team would score i would get up and do the 'happy dance'. His ears would perk up, kind of tilt his to the side ( like the RCA dog) and have a puzzled look on his face and just srare at me. He was probably thinking 'what an idiot'.
