Their definition of success.

Those who see success as happiness via living up to potential, doing something for the greater good or accomplishing something of great use, having a loving family, etc. tend to lead lives that are generally accepted as successful.

People who see success as money, flashy cars, hot and hollow women (or men) and a cavernous house, tend to be viewed by most as unfulfilled and ultimately unsuccessful. Most people are smart enough, or at least they become smart enough eventually, to see through such narrow and empty definitions of success.

As my brother said just before he was taken into custody, the difference between a SUCCESSFUL person and an UNSUCCESSFUL person is the "UN," success is up to me because there is no "you" in "UN."

[Hmmm . . . I questioned that statement for years, but now that I write it out it finally makes sense to me.]

That depends upon what you mean by "successful."

If you are talking about people who make a lot of money and are successful in business, then I would say it is the "never quit, never accept anything but winning" type of philosophy.

If you are talking about successful marriages with happy children... then I would say it is the ability to compromise and accept the faults of others and be happy with what you have.

happiness...the others will follow. if you are living on the streets you probably won't be happy, thus you are unsuccessful. if you are rich and still unhappy, you are unsuccessful, too, as far as the philosophy of life goes.

The 'successful' act and often fail. They see these failings as learning needs and temporary. So they continue to carry on learning until they eventually succeed.

The 'unsuccessful' do not act because once they failed. They know that their one failure is permanent.

Success, to me is not defined in monetary terms, nor in terms of things. It is in feeling of peace within yourself, appreciation of the whole world and its connectiveness to each other, to other living things and to past and future generations. It for me, is a feeling of trust and hopefulness for mankind. It is in the morality of your decisions and lifestyle. Peace is in the quality and richness of your relationships with family and friends.

Most people derive their success through monetary or material gains. A sad way to live your life--if you ask me.

Me, I succeed even if I fail.

I can't accept anything else.

Failure = immediate gratification.
Success = delayed gratification.

Or, what might be described as poor impulse control. Impulsive people quickly regret their choices and their actions. Impatient people find similar outcomes but on a smaller scale.
