So, I was reading this thread (http://philosophy-forums.com/showthread.php?t=126), when I decided to ask around and see how people elsewhere got interested in philosophy. I was first formally acquainted with it in college, and didn't really think about before then.

Can opposites arise from opposites? I personally believe so.

Without fear, how can there be hope?

Without the ability to hate, how can there be love?

Without life, how could there be death?

How is it that these things come from their counterparts?

Isn't nonexistence or existence only as an idea still a form of existence?

Which analogy is better?:

existence:nonexistence
1 : -1

existence:nonexistence
1 : 0

I understand the basic concept of karma but would like opinions on the following:

Say if you hurt someone, (with deepest regret, remorse, and understanding of your actions) due to the self realisation that at some stage in life you have to follow your heart and do what makes you happy, is it as simple as what comes around goes around (because you hurt this person you will get hurt)? Or is the theory of karma more complicated in this instance?

Thoughts and opinions much appreciated.

i experience two things.

one being i have dreampt about something.

the second being when something is in the midst of happening, i remember it. like it already happened and what is actually happening is a memory.

weird cause what is happening currently in any given situation is the first time it is happening on this earth or in this world anyways.

and, just to add another question while i'm at it.

is there a difference between earth and the world for you?

is it legitimate to say one 'reasoned out' because 'he understood'?. Is there a difference between 'understanding' and 'reasoning'?

There seems to be a direct correlation between the idea of "Existence precedes essence" and humans are "Condemned to be free"

However, I am failing to recognize what that connection is. My friend has to write a paper on whether or not she agrees with the idea of humans being condemned to be free. However, she rejects the idea of existence preceding essence. Neither of us can see a problem though. How are these two concepts related? What effect does the rejection of existence before essence produce in relation to being condemned to be free?

Any help is greatly appreciated. Im quite confused.

Does this mean that rational people don't fall in love??

Cuz a lot of materialistic people get marry for common interests not from love?

What do you think about this?

Refer the above. As per my experience, I often find myself getting into trouble by helping others. I used to be a very helpful person to others during my childhood. But I never get any help from others . Also frequently , I get rejected from others . Sometimes people I helped will turn against me and create more trouble for me .. Why is this happening to me.. Sometimes I believe karma doesn't work for me . I find it is better not to help others . Or is it because I am not drawing the line between help & looking after myself appropriately? Can you help me to make my understanding better ?.

There is a huge divide between what is considered to be the adult world and the child world. Within the two worlds there are very different things.

The adult world:
Sex.
Violence.
Drugs.
Danger.
War.

The Child world:
Carefreeness.
Lack of heavy responsibility.
Easy 'Carefree' Fun.
Learning new things.

Why is that when someone grows to a certain age they are expected to relinquish the things of youth as if they are something that has grown to small or undesirable. Then after having freely given it up they bemoan their existence, "why is life so hard?" for example.

Things like fairy tales for example with happy endings are considered children’s stuff and 'not fit' for the adult world. Yet buried deep within these stories is a wisdom for ages past, and yet the adult world ignores this because it comes in a package that is for children.

Why does the adult world turn it's back on these things from youth? Why does it treat them as if they are something to be discarded with the of the rubbish?

Please explain why you think this is.

(P.S. Please focus on the intent of the question and not the question itself.)

....cuz it seems that they are talking or writing too much...for one simple essence of things.

cuz black is black and white is white....and they start to talk about black color go through grey and then white...and they come back in to the black color...in media res...if you know what I mean.

P.S I tend to philosophy also :) so don't get offended :)
