'...for one simple essence of things.'

The problem is that the essence of something is not simple. The essence of something is vast and comlex because it not only covers what it is but also what it maens to us as humans and what effect it has on our world.

Therefore it cannot just be explained away with one or two simple examples but must be explored. And with each generation of new philosophers these views and ideas are re-examined and re-assesed. And when our world changes like it did during the industrial revolution all of the things that makes us who we are change as well. So all that we have placed our faith in, all that we have known to be true, all that we have not questioned now is up in the air. And when this happen we must re-examine and re-assess our world and ourselves.

Hope this helps.

In media res means "in the midst of the thing."

Black can indeed become gradually more white, and seeing things in black or white is not really a compliment, but rather, an indication of an unsophisticated viewpoint.

But it is good that you have an interest in philosophy, as it indicates you are interested in stretching your mind and enlarging your viewpoints.....

Black is black. White is white. Your question is like saying, Truth and Lie. But then they "Well, a little white lie doesn't hurt anyone..." To me, there are no in betweens or shady areas. It's either one or two.

Of course they do. Their philosophy is simply their viewpoint on the subject, not scientific proof. So, they exaggerate in hopes of bringing you to see things from their standpoint.
All philosophers need a following...thus they continue to recruit, and they do it, sometimes, by creative imagination and exaggeration.

Black isn't a color...it's the absence of color.
