They would only be in your face (so to speak) if you heard them talking about you in a negative way.

so long as you don't hear it right to your face, why not?

if someone cannot express himself ardently infront of your face, that means to say that you're more superior than that person in all perspective that they can't even look at you while talking, take it that way.

I see what you mean... it's an affront, an invasion of personal space, privacy etc. so it's more like they are filling your reality with the sight of their muck.
