Is Y!A philosophy not a perfect example of the effects of power structures on knowledge?

If one had to make a survey of the kinds of questions asked and answered here, they would think philosophy is concerned with
1) the meaning of life 2) theology 3) the disproof of evolution &c.
None of which you'll be able to take a course on in a university.

If anyone is familiar with the institution of philosophy, its history, influences, and importance today, why is this website the way it is?

What could Y!A do to improve the quality, without sacrificing manpower?-- it seems only democratic self-regulation; but truth isn't democratic...

I'm of the mind that it cannot be "fixed".

If you think my position is elitist, that's fair, but be forewarned that the rest of us may only consider you illiterate.

What do you think? Can us lowly websurfers even scratch the surface of philosophy?

... For instance: Fun and Boredom ....... or Business and Pleasure ........ or fulfilling and unfulfilling?

Do you live with this duality? Or do you pick one side and stay there?

How do you handle this balancing act?

Do you believe that I would enjoy it the same way you will?
(I'm tone deaf, I do not like golf, and I'm not very social).

Who am I? That I feel some sense of entitlement.
Like the world was created just for me.
Field and forest. Water and sky.
Resentment at the intrusion of others into my solitude.

What is it? This unknown and unknowable desire.
This forever longing.
A burning ache. An unhealed wound.
Constantly itching, wanting to be scratched and picked at.

When is the moment? That contentment steals upon the soul.
Calming the restless spirit
The jangling nerves. The malaise of the mind.
The constant longing for a peaceful surcease on the path to oblivion.

Where is nirvana? The acquiescence to inevitability.
The acceptance of futility.
Aspirations dimmed. Dreams buried.
A lone bit of flotsam in the homogenous soup of mankind
.
Why must it be like this? A strange lack of fulfillment
A sensation of being cheated.
Thwarted by time. Senses stifled.
Thoughts of the mundane crowding out the sublime.

Such as; raccoons, bald eagles, and tigers. All species seem to be complete, with no trail of evolution within their on species. Meaning that there seems to be no through backs, animals born with some of the characteristics of there former stages of evolving. It's not that I do or don't believe in evolution, just curious.

Thoughts on this:

Habits can be broken, even if they appear to be second nature, as all habits can be broken. However, instincts cannot be broken. Instincts can be denied, yes, but not permantly removed, they will always lie somewhere within, whether you are aware of this or not.

In labs, bacterial cultures are created in agar solutions in petri dishes, then covered and placed in an incubator. This provides the necessary ingredients for the culture to grow in perfect isolation from other cultures. Each galaxy in the universe has similar conditions. I wonder if this is a universal experiment with each galaxy containing different cultures. Sometimes galaxies collide, but then again, sometimes the lab tech mixes cultures as well. I also find it interesting that each galaxy has not only a giant central mixer in the form of a black hole, but that each black hole collects all the information contained within a galaxy.

The question was asked "Is God independent of nature"?
This is my answer. Looking for opposing points of view based on logic.

The concept of God didn't exist until man defined it. Man is recent product of nature. Therefore, God too is recent. Nature exists all around you. God exists in your mind. Nature is expressed in the physical laws of the universe. God is expressed in the words of man. Natures laws are inviolate. Gods laws are transient. Nature serves all living things. God serves mans desire for enlightenment. We are an expression of nature. God is an expression of us. Nature doesn't need man to still be. God needs man or he ceases to be
