Identity is socially constructed. You are whoever you want to be, but unfortunately moreso whatever society says you are.

I am a somebody. I'm not defined by the car I drive. I drive a Hyundai Accent. When I bought my car I chose substance over style. I made a practical decision. It was a decent car within my budget & was paid off in 3 years (brand new, 0% financing). If I'd made the "emotional" decision & went for style I'd have bought the Toyota Celica (in silver...pretty car) or a Mazda Miata. But the interest rates were high & I still would have been paying it off & at the end of the day it still just gets me from a to b. Then if I really want to dream I would choose a Porsche Boxster, but I don't really have $80K to blow on a vehicle at this stage of my life! I have a mortgage to pay.
Sometimes I'll see a balding middle-aged man in a Porsche pulled up beside me & I just smile to myself (mid-life crisis? Something to prove?) I have nothing to prove. I have a small ego. I'd rather impress someone with my academic awards, with my artistic or musical talent, or just with my strong sense of morals & the way I conduct myself in the world. Driving a fancy car doesn't make you a somebody. A big fat paycheck doesn't make you a somebody. Loving & being loved, living with passion, making the most of your life, being a good person, these are the things that make me a somebody.
Don't get me wrong. If I was a millionaire, I'd probably go for the Porsche but it would be relative to what I could afford. It still wouldn't define who I am, it would just be kind of cool...
My car tells me I'm practical & good with money. Because of that I was able to afford a detached house, so it's all good (not that my house means I'm a somebody either. My house just says I'm a good saver & also a very stylish interior decorator! My mortgage says I better keep my day job until my musical or artistic career pays off! Tee hee)

first off, i don't listen to what other people thing about the vehicles i drive and ride.
And thinking your a someone is good positive thinking. keep it up.
I ride a Harley.. doesn't make me a bad person but you would be surprised how many people freak out just because you own one.
ignore the people that fit into this criteria. they only mean to bring you down with there small mindset.
Think outside the box.
Don't let anyone lock you up in one.

You have to be who you are. Think positive and positive things will happen. Be happy of who you are. Just tell yourself that you are grate when you have that kind of feelings again. Never let anybody or any think put you down. Next time don't listen to your car because its just a car.

A fool cought up in socialized materialism! No I don't see the irony. It takes money to buy or make a status car. Man makes money as they say, but money doesn't make the man!

Poor self-esteem, which usually accompanied my overblown ego, have thinking everybody is looking at you and the car you drive... that is all... such a worldly condition... not alone with that.

If you think you are a "somebody" you are mistaken. If you think your car makes or breaks you as a somebody you are incredibly stupid.
