I am writing an essay on Tolstoy and his idea of "good" art. I am looking for modern sources regarding the argument of "good" vs. "bad" art. I'd like to be able to support my personal opinion of art being a personal experience, not something that can be understood universally. I am also of the opinion that sometimes "underground" or more obscure themes bring about a feeling of discovery in the viewer/reader/listener. Digging for the meaning can bring a feeling of satisaction.

and became a purely experiential being - how would that improve life on earth?

ie: we would experience God if we did (or not if we did not) but we would not believe or not believe in God

we would experience Love if we did (or not if we did not) but we would not believe or not believe in Love

I don't think anyone has a life that is without difficulty. We didn't choose to live in the first place, most of us are the products of accidental pregnancies and are raised by parents who are basically winging it. Try and not be a little screwed up. Most of us do jobs we don't enjoy and deal with people we don't like in order to just make it in life. We have to deal with the pain of failure and loss and tend to a lot of problems we've simply inherited from those who came before us. And we all die evenutally, probably in a way that will be unpleasant/painful. I could go on, but you catch my drift. Life is full of stress and pain.

Yet we still live. We could kill ourselves, but relatively few do. So there must be something in life that makes it worth all the stress and stress pain. Personally, I'm kept going by curiosity, I want to learn as much as I can, see how the world changes and see if I can capture satisfaction before I die. What makes life worth living to you?

The universe is a very big place indeed. I was sat down having a chat last night with my dad and we both agreed that we as humans are nothing in the universe. If you got in a rocket and went straight up and just carried on going (with endless fuel) then the earth would just be a spec of dust in a big wide open space filled with planets and stars. Thing is the universe is a very very VERY big place indeed. Who's to decide that there is no other life out there? The world is a big place and is filled with humans, animals, plants, germs ect, ect, ect. What makes the universe any different to earth? Surely there must be some other life form out there. I'd like to hear other peoples thoughts and veiws on the subject.
