"It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it."

I like it.
I think it means that one must have detachment and objectivity.

And you?

Do you frequently apply common sense, then find out it's wrong. My philosophy as been don't use common sense unless you have to. Well I violated my rule. Guess what happened. Yeah that's right. The common sense was wrong.
I was going through questions on YA. Someone asked if walking a mile burns the same amount of calories as running a mile. I said no. Because it takes more calories to get there faster. Then in the sources section I typed in "common sense". I submitted it. Then I started to worry. I went and looked it up. I was wrong. Walking a mile actually burns more calories than running a mile. I had to go back and apologize and give the right answer. Serves me right!
Do you have similiar luck when applying common sense ?

I am a 16 year old who has always thought that you shouldn't look for love, but that it will come to you and that i should wait for a guy to ask me out, however, a couple of weeks ago i started to notice this guy that works in a shop i visit very often. I'd like to start talking to him and maybe even ask him out for a coffee...There's a part of me that is saying i should totally go for it as he could be a really nice guy and yet im not sure if that's forcing love to happen...What do you think? I'd appreciate any advice! Thanks :-)

Isnt the moon fascinating. Look at it right now, I can see it too, but still I'm probably thousands of miles far away from you. It shines for everyone everywhere and it have done for generations. Can't we find some kind of solidarity by it ? When I miss someone I can look at it and think " yes he/she sees the same". It's like an unforgettable sign or something. Still it just sits there and shines alone, not thinking, not worry. I think we should be more like it, peaceful, timeless. I know this was a weird question, but still there is a need of them to. What do you think about when you look at the moon ? Maybe you think like "nothing" , but hey thats still a thought :)

I admire Confucius and am currently reading the Analects but in my research of this famous philosopher I have come across some of his sayings on women and I must say that I don't agree with them, I know that it's not a religion or anything so I don't have to agree with everything in Confucianism but I would like to hear how Confucianists feel about this. Men and women's views are welcome but especially women. Are there any women Confucianists?

I obviously reject all notions of godheads as Freud did,I accept that we are alone in the sense that we inhabit our own unique worlds of frozen individualism,so it really appears we are bound up in this Hobbsean society with little purpose,so where is the truth to be found?

I experienced an event that changed my life. Not only was it mind altering, it was by far the most beautiful, uplifting, loving experience of my life. Rapture is the only word that comes to mind, and yet, it doesn't seem to be enough to describe it's intensity. It could be described as the "ultimate high" but I was not taking any kind of drug. However, just prior to the "event", I was in a meditative state. I was not dreaming. It happened and I was not alone. Ever since that time, my view of life and the world I live in has changed dramatically. This "event" occurred in 1980 and I have been searching for it's meaning ever since. I have my own theory, but I would like some input from fellow "seekers"...Can anyone help me understand?
