I experienced an event that changed my life. Not only was it mind altering, it was by far the most beautiful, uplifting, loving experience of my life. Rapture is the only word that comes to mind, and yet, it doesn't seem to be enough to describe it's intensity. It could be described as the "ultimate high" but I was not taking any kind of drug. However, just prior to the "event", I was in a meditative state. I was not dreaming. It happened and I was not alone. Ever since that time, my view of life and the world I live in has changed dramatically. This "event" occurred in 1980 and I have been searching for it's meaning ever since. I have my own theory, but I would like some input from fellow "seekers"...Can anyone help me understand?

This is a meta-physical experience, not really an existential experience.

Right now I am experiencing my own existence, that is my existential experience of the world. It's a way of conceptualizing my relationship to my experience as something not necessarily centered on the divine world of forms and ordered towards a common goal but as my individual experience of myself in my journey towards my own becoming.

Meditation can sometimes have dramatic experiences like this. you're not alone, but it might not be as big of a deal as you think. And it might just be a brain fart.
I had an experience similiar to this when I was a kid while begining meditation; laughed, cried, like taking in the world in one breath.Completly overwhelming
And completly irrelevant. What happened in the past is only a memory, a delusion of the mind. Nothing more. Don't get caught up in the experience of the past, experience it's benefit right now. What matters is what you do with the new vision you have.
My suggestion is check out Buddhism. There are many paths(Theravada, Chan, Soto, etc.) but all lead to the same gate. I might suggest soto or similiar school as they are pretty straightforward. But keep your little experience to yourself for a while. If you find a teacher you trust, maybe talk to him privately about it. Just be ready for him to laugh.
And don't think for a minuite you're "enlightened". Ok, you are. But only in as much we all are. Everyone of us. It's our original face. Maybe you just have a little less mud in your eyes. Best wishes on your search, be well.
