where did the materials come from?

This goes to our ingrained "cause and effect" idea. We all seem to think everything has a cause and effect, even going as far back as to "what caused the creation of the world?"...but is it really infinite regress, stopping with "God"? If God just appeared, what made God? OR..if you believe in the big bang theory, where did that first atom or living cell come from? And if "God" just appeared into nothingness, Him even creating "light" and "dark" then did he come INTO nothingness, or was nothingness here first? Did that nothingness "exist" before God?

Is he, indeed, ever able to perceive himself completely, as if laid out in a lighted display case? Does nature not conceal most things from him-even concerning his own body-in order to confine and lock him within a proud, deceptive consciousness, aloof from the coils of the bowels, the rapid flow of the blood stream, and the intricate quivering of the fibers?

Isn't true freedom anarchy? Isn't true equality communism? If you are truly free, aren't you free to be unequal i.e. discriminate based on whatever criteria, nepotism, etc? If everyone is truly equal doesn't that go against meritocracy?

We see emotions over power thought all the time, in muder cases, suicide, assault, and bassically all illogical choices we make. Why are they so powerfull though? I just don't get it, our brain controlls are emotions so why can't it stop them? People do bad things without any thought all the time, just acting on pure hate or jelousy, or some other emotion. When it comes time for me to make decsions, I always try to use reason and take the effects of all my choices into consideration before acting. Sometimes I fail to do this though because my emotions were to powerfull, then I find myself in deep water, and only after can I realize the choice was so stupid and illogical. I think humans give themselves to much credit.

The question "what is the meaning of life?" means different things to different people. The vagueness of the query is inherent in the word "meaning", which opens the question to many interpretations, such as: "What is the origin of life?", "What is the nature of life (and of the universe in which we live)?", "What is the significance of life?", "What is valuable in life?", "What is the purpose of, or in, (one's) life?", and "Why does one live?". These questions have resulted in a wide range of competing answers and arguments, from scientific theories, to philosophical, theological, and spiritual explanations.....

Our capability to enjoy seems to keep reducing as we grow until a stage comes when it appears nothing can really excite or give extreme joy ...... and then the grandparents turn to the grandchildren for enjoyment. Just wonder what connection age and experience has with the ability to get joy and excitement.

How do you think emotions like hate, anger, and jelousy developed among humans but not other animals. All these emotions do is bring about destruction. There is no practical use for them but we society still deems them ok. why don't we rid ourselves of these.

I fear when reading a fiction that my reality orientation will get affected. For example, I like my facts to be straight! I would think that if I were to read fiction, one after the other, I would need to take a break and research the "facts" presented in the narrative. That would take up alot of time, especially if time if pressed.

I thought then, I would probably do not too bad with Michael Crighton's Next, since it has to do with science, but I am not all too updated on the reseach in regards to genetic advances, so I feel I can't read it unless I research first.

Is this sort of fiction avoidance justified?
