Start "In the Beginning..." Genesis is the story of man's creation, tells of the original sin, and when Cain killed Abel. It's a start ;)

The Book of Joab is a good example of enduring Faith to GOD, through his ordeals.
Moses is also a good example of growing positively because of His Faith, then letting His faith prevent him from entering the promised land.
King David is a good example of what happens with absolute power, as after conquering and becoming a great king, he proved too weak to his desires that overpowered him but ultimately returned to GODs good grace after proving once again that absolute power corrupts absolutely.

As far as creation, and the beginning, what you have to keep in mind is that The Bible is merely a compilation of books that were sorted in such a way as to bring about a uniformed religious belief amongst the religious leaders in the time of Constantine.
In his quest to unite to one religion, he had final authority of what stories would be kept and which wouldnt.

So, in fact there could have been much more explanation to creation, and human development in a spiritual sense, but you wont find that much in the Bible. Only examples of the lives choosen will help there.

As far as the evolution of mans morals and beliefs, tat would be an independant rsearch you would have to do, researching all the different present customs and traditions that have been kept, and trying to compare those to the ones and reasons why others have failed to last the test of time.

We are living in a rather ignorant society, always have been, with the exclusion of some books of the Bible.
I can see why it had to take place, and could also argue how detrimental and misleading it is to the all followers .. but there you have yet another example of the power of the Roman Empire and its effects on modern society.

But even still, the Bible does have a singular message there should you look for it, and should you pray for it.

Now, there are many other stories of long ago, tat did not make it into the Bible, and are still being passed down today.
However the authenticity of those stories cannot be proven.

One could argue the authenticity of the stories in The Bible are not without scrutiny but, in reading the Bible in its entirety I think the overall message is stll the same.

Love your GOD (the GOD of Abraham Isaac Jacob and JESUS CHRIST) with all your mind heart and soul,
for HE is a mighty GOD, and a jealous GOD
and Love your neighbor as you love yourself

cant really argue with that as a guide can you?
well people could argue the first, but shoudl they choose to keep the second, all would be right with the world..and thats enough for me.

GOD will sort it all out when the time comes

Forget about the bible if you want a history of morals (for this seems what you are hinting at) just look towards Nietzsche's On The Genealogy of Morals and for supplement, Beyond Good and Evil. I would like to note that Nietzsche will not give you a history of creation, but will provide great insight into the second part of the question.

The Biblical account of creation is found in the first few chapters of Genesis (first book of the Old Testament)

good examples of a persons going through change would be-
Moses (born a Hebrew slave condemned to death. grew up in the house of Pharaoh. he was a royal prince tried to free the Hebrew people failed miserably. subjugated to dwelling in the wilderness. learned humility as a Sheppard. received his commission refused it at first. finally accepted his destiny and succeeded. or did he?

Saul, first king of Israel. anointed as a faithful servant of God. allowed jealousy to corrupt his relationship with God tuned from God into an idolater.

Paul, Hebrew name Saul. a zealous Jew who partook in the persecution of Christians, had a life changing experience and became a leader among the Christan in the first century.

Many more (Job, Manasseh, Rahab) these are just a few one of my personal favorites is Esther. Continue to read the Bible examine it with an open mind continue to ask questions. don't accept what others have to say learn for yourself and the knowledge will be yours.

Start in Genisis... Read to Revelation. You'll see everything you described in there... (Or, you could just read Genisis) It's the first book in the Bible... Page 001.
