Anyone living would have to say life. We have yet to document anyone coming back from the dead so as to know what death holds in store,if anything. Plus you have to be alive to be terrfied about death so fear of death makes LIFE even that more terrifying. Also if you believe in what the bible says then only this life should be terrifying since as Ecclesiastes 9:5 says: "For the living are conscious that they will die; but as for the dead, they are conscious of nothing at all..."

Both could be considered equally terrifying in my opinion... Then again the answer to this question is subjective, therefore unprovable by means of logic. Life is definitely terrifying because of all the horrible things that can happen to one during their life, along with the anxiety of what's to come, and the anxiety of death. However death is intimidating because... Well you figure it out, genius. =P

The most terrifying of all is life...forever. Life that concludes in death is normal and is not the subject for much fear. Death preceded by life is also normal. But living forever. That is truly scary.

Know where your destination is upon death, and death will lose its sting. Life is hard, but God is good and He is faithful to His promises.

John 14:6 - Jesus said, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through ME."

Eternal life on earth as well as in heaven is your destiny when you put your faith in Jesus Christ as your LORD and savior. That should help alleivate your concerns about terror in life and death. Read John 10:10 as well. Jesus came to GIVE US LIFE!!!

Considering the most likely terrible thing to happen to you, happens the moment before death, then I would have to go with life.
