I've listened to this piece years ago, but I cannot seem to remember it. I remember that it was really dark (yes, I do realize that most of Poulenc's pieces are really dark). I think it was piano only, but there could have been a flute or clarinet. There were no voice parts.

I remember being told that Poulenc was a prisoner of war and tormented by birds (thus the imitation of birds). I think this piece was written while he was imprisoned.

Can anyone help?

What are the factors that make one guitar easier to play than another? I play guitar and I've noticed that some guitars are just easier to play. The pick seems to glide through the strings more fluidly and it seems to make a nice sound without much effort on some guitars, but on others it is hard to strum and it just sounds bad. My guitar is like this. I have a Gibson Epiphone and it sounds bad and I have trouble strumming on it. When I play someone else's guitar or another guitar at a music store, I can play effortlessy. There are other guitars that sound bad and are hard to play, but it always seems like the one that I have is hard to play. Does it have to do with the strings? Does it have to do with how the strings are mounted? I was recently playing my roommate's Schecter guitar, and the strings felt so firm, yet it was easy to play and it sounded good. I took the strings off of mine and put them on his. So the same strings that were on my bad sounding guitar, sounded good on his.

my friends and especially my ex gf have always told me I could go somewhere with singing if I were to get a band together. For as long as theyve told me, especially the ex, I felt they were just saying it to be nice and not hurt my feelings because I love music so much. I told them to be honest and they would always say I'm great and should go for it. How do I know if they're telling me the truth or not? I cant exactly tell by listening to myself because I'm not so sure what I hear is what they hear. Ahhh please help.

my vocal range is of about 2 octaves. i want to extend it to hit higher notes and litterally shout them/belt them out. not scream but really tear out the vocals.

im trying to sing "say hello 2 heaven" by "temple of the dog" have a listen to it. i can do the verse no problem but when it gets to the chorus and it shifts up and the vocals get louder i loose it. my throat tightens and strains and i just cant hit it.

are there any ways to train my voice so that i can hit those notes?
and also any to make it louder?

cheers!

I am currentley a Sophmore at Upland High School. I play the Bass Clarinet and the Bagpipes in the school marching band. My section in nthe band has decided that we don't use neck straps for the Bass Clarinets. I have gone through 2 years of marching band without a neck strap so now it is more of just an annoyance than help. Everyone we talk to says it is bad for your thumb to have all that weight on it. is that true?

Wow, I'm still stunned about getting the part because I auditioned for a supporting role, but I apparently preformed so well that the director was afraid that I would upstage whoever got the lead...

I didn't really prepare for the part of Marian, so I never really got a chance to develop my character. I'm really excited about getting the part but I don't know if I know her well enough...hehe

I had my first singing lesson last week Saturday and all we did was talk and place my voice. She said I had an exactly one octave range starting at low C to Middle C. I wanted to expand my range (The notes I couldn't get were in my passaggio, my passagio cover about one hole octave). So for the past two days I have been practing for about 20 mins. trying to go up higher little by little. I tried and it seemed impossible to sing a D. But now it is gradually getting easier to go higher and higher. When I practice going higher my vocal cords do feel a little stressed for about 15 mins. after. Am I damaging my voice or is this just stress from stretching.

My daughter has been playing the violin for several years. Her music teacher recently called me and said that my daughter is too advanced for her class and wants to advance her to field harmonic.

I have no idea what a field harmonic is and how it is related to the violin. Can you guys explain it to me please?

Thanks.

This question is from my younger brother. How can I increase my vocal range. I can only match the pitch from low C to a middle D on a piano, only one octave. If I try to sing an E my vocal cords stress and I cannot get it. How can I hit higher notes. We don't have money for vocal lessons and no chorus I can join.

I know this is something I should probably know, but what should I do for this years talent show? Its in about 1 month and the only good thing I am good at is doing tricks with a hula hoop and okay at singing. I am a pretty fast learner... I am okay at gymnastics (I can do basics like cartwheel, split, bridge, onehanded cartwheel etc.) and I speak spanish and italian. Any ideas or good songs that come in a kareoke version?
