I feel I'm seemingly talentless. I mean i get good grades... but anyone can do that. My question is what is talent? Is it something natural, something a person is born with or does it come through practice? How can i gain talent?

Oh my god...i need an answer asap. I love all these four songs but I do not know which one i should sing for the talent show. Here i will list the song, and what the down factors i think are with it.

The christmas song: Is it too common?
I'll be home for Christmas: Is it too short? I don't want my part in the show to be just a minute or something.
Have yourself a Merry Little Christmas: Is it too hard? I want to sound good but will i be able to do that with this song?
Last christmas: Is it too easy? Like will my voice not stand out from the crowd if I sing something easy to sing to?

I am 16 and Im going to go to university on Cello. I was wondering if there is a website that shows all of the pieces that individual american univerties require. I was also wondering if america is a better place than Berlin for music conservatories.

What (besides practicing) is the best to prepare me for a music education major? How much should I practice? (I want to either major in instumental or be a double major with vocal) I play four instruments - piano, clarinet, tenor sax, and bassoon. Should I focus more on certain instruments? Should I try to be involved in other bands/orchestras? Should I do lots of solo work? I will go to a liberal arts college, specifically Calvin College (http://www.calvin.edu) or possibly Lawrence College.

I've been told by a friend that I might be naturally good at writing lyrics. Some things I've just naturally said sounds like lyrics to her. So she recommended to me maybe I should go to a music school or do something to improve my music skills. I searched through some music schools in Australia, New South Wales, Sydney, and OH MY. They sure are costly. $5000s, $200s for application fees... I don't think I can ever fulfil or achieve my dreams/wish. I wanted to learn how to sing, about songs, songwriting/composing, and instruments. *sigh* Can someone please help me? I'm really passionate... I'd do anything to achieve and improve my skills in music, and go out there, sitting cross-legged with just an acoustic guitar and my voice and sing. Please help me fulfil my dream, my wish. P.S: I live in Sydney, NSW, AUS.

I was just wondering. I think that it would be fun to minor in oboe. I've been playing since 7th grade and I'm now a sophomore and I think that it would be interesting. What all does it involve (besides the obvious)? and what do you have to do to get there?

I would want to do oboe as a "minor" and Physical Therapy (or pta) as my major.

I already talked to my band director about it. (I’m only a sophomore) and what would be some other options, I know that I don't want to completely stop playing after I graduate, I love it to much to.

My dream is to play marching snare in college. I'm in high school marching band, but I don't play percussion. I own a snare drum, and try to practice at home. However, I'm not sure what to practice that would prepare me to audition for marching. Does anyone have any suggestions?

My sister has never done "preforming arts" but I'd like to sign her up for an acting class because I see that she's good in acting and looks like she would enjoy it. But, how do I find a good acting class near OceanCounty, NJ? I know we have a Strand Thearter in a close town and maybe she would be good enough to start a acting step there. What and Where should I find these classes and could she autition in the Strand Thearter in the Local town.

In my music theory class we just finished up talking about major chords and have moved on to minor keys and the chords involved in them.

According to my understanding the following chords are in a minor key:
i, ii (diminished), III, iv, v7, VI, VII7 (half-diminished)

Why is the VII half-diminished? How does one go about writing a half-diminished chord? I understand that a diminished chord has two minor 3rds stacked on top of each other. Keeping this in mind, does this mean that a regular VII triad would be diminished?

And since you can have a half-diminished chord can you have a half-augmented chord? Could a triad ever be half-diminished?

Any imput would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
