Think laterally about everything around you. Flip a situation on its head and look for the irony within it; and observe life with the precision of a poet, familiarity of the man next door, and razor sharp wit of the empassioned.

Your comedy persona needs to reflect YOU whether it's your dark side, your political views, your real-life experiences and observations, or a character you've invented. It needs to come from YOU and be natural. Prepare your material, practise in front of a mirror/friends/family, then when you're ready, go to an open mic night at a comedy club, and do your set. Think of it as a learning experience, and see what works/what goes down like a lead balloon. It'll be a good way of getting over your nerves, polishing your delivery, learning about how to build a rapport with the audience, and how to respond to their laughter/boos/hecklers. Keep performing/practising, and you might get spotted. When you're confident and your act is going down well, try entering a comedy competition or two.

Good luck!

It sure helps if you're funny. Once you are comfortable being funny around friends, family, and coworkers, try for a comedy club. Ametuer performances are a great way to get used to being on stage.

Good luck...
