After dancing for 12 years I am doing a solo in competition this year. I am doing a lot of tricky dance moves. One being where I bring my leg up behind me and touch my toe to my head and then I go into a roll. When I stand up from the roll I have to do another leg extension. I tend to build up so much momentum that my base foot does not have a solid "stick" to it when I go into the move. I know it has to do with balance but how do you deal with the momentum you have built up and also make sure you have correct balance in your move?

In Jive I need to do a step where I am...flicking? I start out standing on my right foot and flicking forward, then to the left, then steping crossed behind the right foot, then having the right foot close them, and then the left foot stepping to the left, so I am standing on it. After that there are 2 more times when I flick, and I am having trouble with it. My instructer says to bend into the standing knee to stay balanced, but I still fall over during the 3rd flick. Any helpful tips?

I was a teenager in the 50s and would love to, at this late date, learn all of the popular dances from that era. It would be so much fun and great exercise!

I am currently wanting to move into a new city because I would like to start anew. I want to study dance and become a choreograper. I would also like to open a hip hop dance studio for children as well as adults. Any suggestions?

What is the turn called when so have one foot grounded and the other leg is out and moving in a circular motion. This motion turns your body around. It is kind of like a pirouette(sp).

People always say that the Lambada is forbidden but I've always wondered why.

What is the origin of this dance?

Can I see it in any ballroom competitions?

:)

Thanks!

From ages 4 to 8, I spent all my time divided between soccer, ballet, gymnastics and tap, but my mom lost her job and we couldn't afford to continue any of my out-of-school activities. I'm almost 17 now, and I have the money start taking dance lessons again, and I would really like to join a cheerleading or dance team in college the year after next. Is it too late for me to start again?

I work at a franchise that requires a lot of time for little money in return. I want more freedom without giving up dancing. I was wondering how hard it is to be a freelance teacher (like teaching at schools)

Anybody had any success/drawbacks?

I have them trained to do everything from playing dodgeball to dancing to rap music. You know where they just stand there with one arm in the air and sway like they like the music, but I can't find a way to get through to them not to run with scissors. So I was hoping that it is only a bad thing for kids and it is okay for monkeys to do it.

What contemporary songs go with waltz, foxtrot, rumba, cha cha etc.?
We are taking ballroom dance lessons and want to be able to dance to some contemporary music. The hardest thing is to decide which song goes with which dance.
