i am doing a lyrical/contemporary ballet... i am looking for a modern song

2007-04-07 11:58:05 · 5 answers · asked by reen 2

I'm looking for a lyrical song to compete with next year. I don't want a song that everyone has heard a million times, so if you know any unusual, lyrical songs, i'd be happy to hear your ideas.
Song title, and the artist please.
Thanks

And, unfortuantly, I have no partner. I'm the only stag person in the group, which means that I get to dance with my teacher. However, here is my quandry; how do you recommend that I practice? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

You know the scene. You're at a wedding. Everyone's having a great time on the dance floor. Then... it starts! That song! YOUR song! The one you used to dance along to in front of the TV as a kid/teenager! You pretend it's all a joke and laugh at how lame it is, but you love it!
Which song?

I know there is a Partner Switch in Tango where two couples will switch (walk forward, spin the female, on O together), but is there such thing as switching the partners of more than two couples, possibly even four or more in a similar fashion?

When people enter Pro/Am, I believe they enter it according to the level of the student (correct me if I'm wrong). But what about professionas? When I watch Pro/Am competitoin, I clearly see that some professionals are a lot better dancers than other pros. Overall picture ends up being somewhat uneven - weaker students with stronger teachers, some really strong students that dance better than their teachers (I've seen that too). How do judges decide on the placing? To what extent the level of the Pro is taken into account?

i love dancing, i have loved dancing forever and i think i'm good at it. even though i love to dance to hip-hop i think i like dancing like tango and dances like that more. i love dancing to cuban music, and the dirty dancing movies make me wanna get up and dance the whole day. the problem is that i don't take lessons and i don't know if i ever will, but i love to dance soo much, and i think that's what i wanna do for the rest of my life but what kinda life would that be. i don't think of it as a job. another problem is that the dances i like usually require a partner but i don't have one and you can't really dance that much without a partner. anyway i just don't know what to do. how am i suppose to become a dancer, if i don't even take lessons, or will that even be a real profession? what should i do. i seriously love dancing and can dance for the whole day but is there really anything i can do?

I want to start teaching dance lessons, but I do not have a studio or place to do so. Are there any studios in this area that will rent out time to private dance instructors?

i have always had a secret dream to see the ballet..Swan Lake..so graceful & i am mesmerized by the beauty and skill of the dance - and now..my husband has treated me to actually go to london and see it in june...at the Royal Albert Hall...i am SO excited about it.

however...i am worried - do we applaud after an act - like you do in a musical? or is the clapping at the end? i'd like to know before i go...dont want to look like a dummy!! - thank you to anyone who can advise...and please..if you dont like the ballet - no nasty comments.

plus....what do you wear? i know jeans are not ok - is a trouser suit (smart) ok?...nerves are already setting in and its 2 months away!

I have been doing ballet off and on my whole life. Ballet is my passion and I dance en pointe. I am fairly good, but I don't do it to be the absolute best. I do it because I love it. As much as I love it, I am not interested in going into a professional company. When I go to college (in 2 years) I would love to dance for the college, but can you dance in college without pursuing a degree in ballet? People have told me that it depends on the college and I know this, but in general do they require you to major in ballet to dance with them? I want ballet to be a part of my life for as long as possible!

I have only learnt Latin dancing for 4 weeks, but I would like to in the near future start competing. Do I have to get a partner who is around my level? Or what happens if I get a partner who used to be a professional competitor (i.e. he is very advanced)? Does that disqualify me from entering beginners' competitions?
